POSITION DETAILS

Lehman College, located in the Bronx, New York, is a 13,000 student senior college of the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx. The college serves a predominantly undergraduate student population, preparing them for employment or further study.

The School of Natural and Social Sciences (NSS) is one of the six schools at Lehman College. NSS includes 10 academic departments:
Anthropology;
Biological Sciences;
Chemistry;
Computer Science;
Earth, Environmental, & Geospatial Science;
Mathematics;
Physics & Astronomy;
Political Science;
Psychology; and Sociology.

QUALIFICATIONS

All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years' related experience.

Candidates for NSS Associate Dean must (a) hold a PhD or equivalent degree in a discipline represented within the school and (b) hold the rank of Associate Professor or higher.

DOMAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Academics: curriculum development, course scheduling, academic program review, and support for graduate programs.
  • Student Success: monitor student retention, achievement, and progression.
  • Faculty Development: foster faculty and staff success, manage faculty personnel cases and issues.
  • Communications & Events: maintain NSS web presence and implement communications campaigns.
  • Research: identify funding opportunities, design research support programs, and manage undergraduate research training.
  • Strategic Planning and Accreditation: contribute to planning and accreditation for NSS departments and the College.
  • Mediation: address student, faculty, and departmental concerns and support CUNY initiatives.
  • Representation: coordinate NSS priorities with other offices and programs such as Enrollment Management, Student Affairs, Administration, and Institutional Advancement.

Appointment will be accompanied by an academic appointment at the rank of Associate or full Professor. Tenure may be granted upon appointment to the faculty title, depending on qualifications and experience.

Occasional evening or weekend work will be expected for school- or college-based events.

PREFERRED SKILLS

  • Adobe Acrobat Pro
  • Course scheduling and management systems and databases
  • Student advising systems
  • Learning management systems (e.g., Brightspace)
  • Previous administrative experience at the role of Department Chair or higher
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary commensurate with education and experience, $145,000 - $153,000.
