Job Overview

We are looking for a Preschool Special Education Teacher to join our team at the William O'Connor‑Bay Ridge School. The primary responsibility is to conduct educational classes for special education pre‑school or Early Intervention students, ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations and agency requirements. This is a full‑time managerial and supervisory position, leading the instructional team, supervising Teacher Assistants, and coordinating interdisciplinary services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Plan and conduct classes/activities adapted to student needs.
  • Assess and prepare IFSP/IEP’s, implementing short and long‑term goals.
  • Participate in student transition activities, initial evaluations, and intake processes.
  • Conduct annual educational assessments across all domains and produce progress reports.
  • Prepare individual and group lesson plans, arrange materials, and modify the environment as needed.
  • Maintain attendance and progress records, write periodic reports.
  • Ensure services honor student dignity, privacy, and confidentiality.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities (trips, pool, gym, libraries, labs).
  • Attend team meetings, parent meetings, special review committee meetings, in‑services, and district meetings.
  • Orient, train, evaluate, delegate, and supervise Teacher Assistants, including hiring and disciplinary actions.
  • Obtain approvals, requisitions, and purchase classroom equipment and materials.
  • Assist with student transportation between buses and building.
  • Apply universal precautions and assist with toileting, feeding, positioning, and assistance with clothing.
  • Provide substitute instruction in other classrooms as requested.
  • Participate in in‑service training programs.
  • Consult with director or other personnel on program issues or student handling.
  • Initiate safety precautions and ensure hazard‑free work environment.
  • Attend parent meetings, conferring with individual parents about program content.
  • Assist with curriculum development and supervise student teachers.
  • Stay abreast of changes in the field.
  • Perform any related duties as requested.
Qualifications
  • Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency with personal computer and relevant software.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills to interact with coworkers, staff, children, parents and external contacts.
  • Maintain confidentiality of student and staff records.
  • Ability to analyze problems and determine corrective measures.
  • Must be available Monday–Friday, 8 am–3 pm.
Education and Experience
  • Master’s Degree in Special Education (preferred).
  • New York State Certification in Special Education Early Childhood (Birth‑2nd Grade). Meet all additional NY State Certification requirements.
  • OR:
    Bachelor’s Degree with current Master’s pursuit or Special Education Certification; qualified for a study plan.
Compensation and Benefits

Annual salary: $67,705.57 – $79,567.50, plus industry‑leading benefits and a $5,000 SIGN‑ON BONUS.
