Henry Street Settlement’s Education and Employment Services, a $10M division, provides a continuum of services from early childhood education through adult workforce programs designed to assist individuals in obtaining the skills necessary for lifetime self-sufficiency. Our employment programs are derived from proven models to provide holistic employment, education, and financial counseling services to low‑income New Yorkers. The Job Essentials Training (JET) and On Ramps to Opportunity (ORO) program provides career counseling and professional development services to New Yorkers and Lower East Side residents over 18 years old.
Job SummaryThe Youth Employment Coordinator in Henry Streets On Ramps to Opportunities Training Program provides best‑in‑class career development, job placement and job retention support to a diverse young adult population through resume and interview preparation, job coaching, career planning, advancement support, skills development and training and certifications. Your mission is to conduct community centered outreach to engage neighborhood youth and then develop a strong relationship with clients to provide a safe space to remove barriers to employment and remain engaged with us for one year or longer.
Qualifications- Bachelor’s degree and 2 years relevant experience OR high school diploma/GED and 5-7 years relevant experience required.
- Experience in youth development, education, recruiting, human resources, workforce development, professional development a plus.
- Passion for and ability to serve diverse groups including those who are under‑ and unemployed, unhoused, young adults, justice‑involved, and LGBTQIA.
- Demonstrated experience providing comprehensive assessment and case management services to large caseloads.
- Demonstrated experience effectively teaching or facilitating groups and individuals to achieve a desired outcome using up‑to‑date techniques/methods.
- Demonstrated experience conducting outreach to engage hard to serve populations.
- Self‑motivated and able to work efficiently and effectively both independently and in team settings, consistently keeping collaboration at the forefront of all work.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to multitask.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and strong interpersonal skills required, ability to effectively conduct meetings, training, groups preferred.
- Computer proficiency:
Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) required, various data collection software required, database maintenance required, web/cloud‑based programs required, targeted internet research required, social media (including Twitter, Linked In, Facebook, Career Builder) preferred, web‑based mailing services preferred, experience using Outcomes/Resume Video database a plus. - Familiarity with Lower East Side neighborhoods preferred.
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
- Coordinate recruitment and outreach efforts for young people (ages 18-24), including building strong partnerships with community-based organizations, social service, and government agencies and other youth organizations.
- Successfully place at least 60 members annually into unsubsidized employment (20+ hours/week) and meet quarterly contract employment and retention goals.
- Utilize social media and other web-based recruitment and retention tools for young adults.
- Conduct presentations at community-based organizations, NYCHA Developments, social services, and government agencies, and job fairs that serve young adult populations.
- Conduct weekly screening applications for enrollment, scheduling appointments, and ensuring member files contain all required documentation.
- Work closely with other HSS youth centered program staff to offer support customized for young adult beneficiaries through all stages of program and service.
