Compensation:

Certified with a Master's Degree: $72,000

90 credits and a Master's Degree in ECE: $61,070

90 credits and a Bachelor's Degree: $45,710. 95

Job Summary :

This position serves as a Teacher for a Head Start classroom with a direct focus on children 3 to 5 years of age. The teacher will work collaboratively with Assistant Teacher and Family Advocate to ensure the successful operation of a classroom with a total of 15-20 children.

Responsibilities:

The teacher will ultimately be evaluated on a combination of skills, dispositions and behaviors, some of which are related to the specific service area of this position and others that represent general expectations of all our program employees. The teacher will demonstrate competency to perform functions that include:

Child Growth & Development: Uses knowledge of the principles of child growth and development to work with children, collaborate with related service areas, and communicate with internal and external stake holders.

Implements a child-centered curriculum and learning environment that encourages positive social interaction, active engagement in learning, and self-motivation to promote development in all domains for children of all abilities.
Addresses challenging behaviors by using a variety of strategies for positive behavioral management and guidance in the classroom.
Uses observations of children and anecdotal notes to document children's progress and individualize curriculum.
Creates partnerships with families to establish positive interaction patterns in program, school, and home.

Planning and implementing learning experiences that advance the intellectual and physical development of children, including improving the readiness of children for school by developing their literacy and phonemic, print, and numeracy awareness, their understanding and use of language, their understanding and use of increasingly complex and varied vocabulary, their appreciation of books, and their problem solving abilities.

Establishing and maintaining a safe, healthy learning environment.

PLANNING

Ensure the written curriculum includes:

goals for children's development and learning;
the experiences through which children will achieve these goals;
what staff and parents can do to help children achieve these goals;
the materials needed to support the implementation of the curriculum towards achieving the stated goals

Responsible for the preparation of daily lesson plans which are due two weeks in advance for supervisor approval. Post the lesson plans for parents, volunteers and visitors in the classroom.

Develop an individual plan for each child including goal setting based on identified needs and prescriptions for objectives and activities to meet established child outcomes.

PROGRAM IMPLEMENTATION

Follow program curriculum providing developmentally and linguistically appropriate experiences appropriate to age, language and culture of children served.

Implement experiential learning activities advancing the intellectual and emotional competence of preschool children.

Provide a print rich environment in which children develop literacy, numeracy and social skills using increasingly complex language and problem solving abilities.

Provide positive guidance and discipline supporting children as they acquire readiness skills for kindergarten and beyond.

Implement daily lesson plans in response to children's needs and interests incorporating observations, anecdotal record keeping, knowledge of early childhood development and the key experiences.

Integrate Individual Education Plans (IEPs) For Children With Disabilities.
