Head Teacher - Universal Pre‑K / Universal 3K Classroom (Ridgewood YMCA)Position:
Full‑time, Regular
Salary: $66,300 annually
Location:
Ridgewood YMCA, Queens, NY
- Ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of children in the program by providing close supervision of all activities.
- Plan, implement, and assess developmentally appropriate lessons and activities in literacy, arts, math, cooking, science, and outdoor/indoor recreation.
- Develop classroom centers that respond to children’s interests and support the ongoing curriculum.
- Facilitate student assessments and work sampling.
- Maintain accurate program documentation, including attendance, incident reports, and growth forms.
- Communicate effectively with parents/guardians in written and verbal formats, and encourage participation in special events and volunteer opportunities.
- Supervise Assistant Teachers, Early Childhood Specialists, and Volunteers, fostering a supportive team environment.
- Maintain a clean and safe classroom environment.
- Adhere to all YMCA, Department of Health, and Department of Education guidelines and participate in meetings, training sessions, and special events.
- Three (3) years of experience working with early childhood-aged children in a group setting.
- Strong interpersonal skills, leadership qualities, and comfort working with diverse youth and adults.
- Level I:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Early Childhood and a DOH approved study plan to achieve a Teaching license within 12 months. - Level II:
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood and a valid teaching license for early childhood grades. - Level III:
Master’s degree in Early Childhood and a valid teaching license for early childhood grades.
