Summary

New York Edge is seeking passionate and enthusiastic people to fill the part‑time role of after‑school Academic Enrichment Coach. In this role, you will be critical to the successful operation of New York Edge’s after‑school program. You will be responsible for providing a safe and positive environment for school‑age children and for offering opportunities for learning, interaction, and academic/personal growth. Academic Enrichment Coaches also participate in activities and trips while ensuring a safe working environment, help with homework, and prepare students to demonstrate newly acquired skills in sports and arts.

Schedule

Part‑Time:
Monday – Friday, 2:30 pm – 5:30 pm. This role requires you to be in person.

Essential Job Functions
  • Provide appropriate supervision at all times to ensure the health, safety, and well‑being of program participants.
  • Be an agent of safety for campers, taking responsibility for one’s well‑being and that of others.
  • Keep the immediate supervisor informed daily of any concerns regarding participants, staff, or the facility.
  • Engage participants in meaningful activities, lesson plans, and special events that are structured, age‑appropriate, fun, exciting, challenging, and based on values in arts, STEM, character development, literacy, creative expression, community service, physical fitness, and/or nutrition.
  • Prepare the learning environment and necessary supplies for program activities. Assume responsibility for cleanliness and organization of the camp room, program supplies, and activity space.
  • Support the planning and implementation of all activities, including learning initiatives, field trips, and culminating performances.
  • Provide support to Activity Specialists with activity implementation.
  • Create and maintain a strength‑based, youth‑focused atmosphere that is consistent and sensitive to the needs of participants with learning, emotional, or behavioral differences.
  • Serve as a positive role model for participants.
  • Develop and maintain positive relationships with parents and guardians through regular communication about their child’s strengths and areas of growth, taking a leadership role in providing updates to caregivers.
  • Attend all required training sessions, designated meetings, and special events.
  • Ensure that groups are in ratio.

  • Must have reliable communication/computer devices at home with the capacity to access the internet consistently to respond to organizational emails and complete training before the start of work (if needed).
Qualifications
  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • High school diploma required; some college preferred.
  • Experience working with children strongly preferred.
Work Environment & Physical Demands
  • May be required to walk up and down stairs.
  • May have to lift or move objects/materials as needed.
  • Work is performed mostly within a New York City public school but may require interaction with the community at large during trips or events.

The Academic Enrichment Coach will report to the school and interact with staff, students, parents, and the school administration.

At the time of offer and acceptance, the job requires safety and security clearances through the Department of Education and Department of Health.
