Assistant Director for Veteran Student Success and Community Engagement
Daemen University invites applications for the Assistant Director for Veteran Student Success and Community Engagement. As a dynamic, independent liberal arts institution, Daemen is committed to preparing students for excellence in professional life, civic engagement, and lifelong learning.
Purpose of the RoleThe Assistant Director of Student & Community Engagement supports the success, persistence, and belonging of veteran and military‑affiliated students (V/MAS). This position bridges campus and community engagement through outreach, program development, advising, and collaborative partnerships.
Responsibilities- Provide direct support, advising, and mentorship to veteran and military‑affiliated students, helping them navigate transition to higher education and promoting persistence through graduation.
- Assist students with understanding and accessing VA education benefits, tuition assistance programs, and community resources.
- Serve as a secondary School Certifying Official (SCO) and maintain compliance with VA reporting and annual training requirements.
- Collaborate with the Student Veterans of America Chapter (SVA) to foster leadership, engagement, and advocacy among V/MAS.
- Develop and facilitate campus programming that celebrates and addresses the unique experiences of student veterans and military‑aligned students.
- Conduct proactive outreach (≈50% of the role) across Western New York and regional military bases to promote Daemen’s academic programs and veterans’ benefits.
- Represent Daemen University at military education fairs, community events, and college collaborations to build partnerships with veteran organizations and prospective students.
- Network with local, state, and national veteran‑focused organizations to develop partnerships, sponsor ships, and volunteer initiatives.
- Develop and implement community engagement initiatives that connect the campus community to regional service opportunities and professional development experiences.
- Support the Director and Enrollment team in creation and implementation of strategic recruitment plans.
- Partner with the Enrollment team at local fairs and recruitment events.
- Help manage the daily operations of the Veterans Success Center and Nancy Haberman Gacioch Veterans Lounge, ensuring an inclusive and welcoming environment.
- Supervise, train, and support VA/Daemen Federal Work‑Study students, including oversight of time‑card submissions and scheduling.
- Collect and report data related to student engagement, outreach activities, and program effectiveness.
- Support the HOPE Center’s overall initiatives in advancing institutional equity, inclusion, and belonging through collaborative events and student‑centered programming.
- Perform additional duties as assigned to contribute to the success of the Veterans Services Office and the HOPE Center.
- Bachelor’s degree required.
- Minimum of two years of experience in military/veteran student services, higher education, or community engagement.
- Knowledge of GI Bill education benefits and veteran service systems required.
- Experience supervising student workers or volunteers preferred.
- Veteran status strongly preferred.
- Health insurance with either an HSA plan or a copay plan.
- Dental insurance through the Guardian network.
- Vision insurance through the Guardian network with options between VSP or Davis plans.
- An 8% employer contribution to the retirement savings account when employees contribute 5%.
- Fully paid long‑term disability insurance, guaranteed‑issue life insurance up to $150,000.

Salary: $62,353 per year
