Qualifications
- New York State Teaching Certificate – Special Education
- Must complete Personalized System of Instruction (PSI) training modules in a timely manner. Three‑tiered training modules include knowledge of the terminology of the science of Applied Behavior Analysis, fast and accurate presentation and succession of instruction (learn units), analysis of individual student data.
- An ability and willingness to train and supervise teachers, teacher aides in appropriate presentation of instruction and succession of student behavior; ability to model appropriate classroom behavior.
- Sensitivity to the communication, academic, and social needs of students with developmental disabilities at all levels of independence.
- Accountable to the Coordinator of School Age Program and indirectly to the Executive Director.
- Programming.
- On-going teacher training.
- Mentoring teachers and paraprofessional development goals.
- Conduct individualized criterion‑referenced inventories of behavior repertoires (assessments) for all students on an annual basis.
- Analyze student progress on a daily or moment‑to‑moment basis.
- Development of curricula and behavior procedures to be followed in the classrooms.
- Guide teachers in the application of behavioral techniques.
- Ensure that programs are followed, and data recorded appropriately.
- Conduct individual and biweekly classroom meetings.
- Oversee the behavior‑analysis expertise across a minimum of 5 classrooms.
- Assess students’ abilities according to their performance on criterion‑referenced assessments, authentic assessments, and instructional objectives.
- Construct ongoing analysis of problems and progress in IEP programs.
- Review communication, academic, and social progress of student at CSE meetings, annual and semi‑annual interdisciplinary team meetings.
- Maintain an up‑to‑date account of students’ educational progress (IEP updates and student progress reports) and analyze program data on a daily basis.
- Supervise the completion of teacher IEP packets for all students for NY State requirements.
- Participate in the preparation of community‑oriented programs.
- Maintain daily attendance records.
- Participate in professional staff meetings, behavior analysis courses, and the Personalized System of Instructions training modules as part of on‑going in‑service training.
- Maintain communication with families/agencies regarding students’ programs.
- Complete summaries of student’s progress four times a year.
- Participate in pre‑placement screening and evaluations of prospective students.
- Ensure compliance with all New York State Education Department regulations.
- Attend professional conferences and in‑service training sessions as scheduled during the year.
- Arrive at work on time every day.
- Protect the health, safety and welfare of all students at all times, and adequately supervise or arrange for adequate supervision of students at all times.
- Act as a Substitute Teacher in the event the regular Special Education Teacher is not present.
- Ensure ongoing curriculum development for all classrooms overseen by the Senior Teacher.
- Ensure Special Education Teachers have appropriate curriculum for their students and ensure the curriculum is being used appropriately.
- Provide Parent Education as warranted.
- Follow Hawthorne Foundation’s established policies and procedures.
- Assume other responsibilities as assigned.
- Sitting, standing, bending, lifting, and moving intermittently during work hours.
- Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
- Must possess sight and hearing senses, or use prosthetics that enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
- Must function independently, have personal integrity, be flexible and able to work effectively with other personnel.
- Must be in good general health and demonstrate emotional stability.
