Position: Group Teacher (Bronx Tremont Child Care Center)
Location: New York

Overview

Under the supervision of the educational director of the center, the group teacher shall be responsible for working within the framework of the sponsoring agency of the day care center, carrying out its functions, policies, and procedures, observing the schedules, and adhering to its personnel policies and practices.

Responsibilities
  • Supervise the planning and execution of a program providing day care for children, considering their educational, social, developmental, and health needs, as well as individual needs.
  • Ensure equipment and materials are accessible and in good condition to encourage constructive use by children.
  • Report or remove any damaged or hazardous equipment to the director or designated person for necessary action.
  • Plan and supervise classroom furniture arrangements to promote optimal program functioning.
  • Participate in planning the use of shared space in relation to the overall center program.
  • Utilize community resources to enrich the children's educational program.
  • Develop educational goals appropriate to the children’s age and developmental level to maximize future educational opportunities.
  • Share knowledge of the sponsoring agency and community with classroom associates.
  • Support the professional growth of classroom associates through regular conferences based on observations and training.
  • Assist in the annual evaluation of classroom associates' performance.
  • Ensure equitable sharing of responsibilities among all classroom personnel.
  • Develop a communication plan to share information about children and the program with parents.
  • Attend and participate in parent meetings.
  • Respect confidentiality regarding information about parents and children.
  • Maintain good working relationships with staff and foster objective attitudes.
  • Plan and conduct regular group conferences with associates, encouraging their participation in professional development activities.
  • Discuss personal professional performance in supervisory conferences with the director, using these as guidance.
  • Maintain records necessary for effective administration, program development, and work documentation.
  • Take responsibility for administrative functions in the director's absence.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned, consistent with the above and program needs.
Qualifications
  • Meet the requirements set by NYSDOH, ACS, and the sponsoring agency for employment.
  • Hold an Early Childhood Certification (Birth-2).
