Dean of Academic Initiatives - Academic Affairs POSITION DETAILS

Reporting directly to the Provost and Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean of Academic Initiatives will be responsible for the assessment and improvement of academic initiatives at the College. The Dean will provide leadership and management and complex instructional programs and partnerships and instructional support and student services program(s), including but not limited to:

  • K-16 partnerships (BTECH, College Now)

  • Immersion Programs (CLIP, CUNY Start)

  • Dual Joint Degrees, Articulations, and Reverse Transfer Initiative through the Transfer Resource Center

  • Internships, apprenticeships and applied learning experiences through the Office of Career Services

Areas of responsibility include Grants and Sponsored Programs, Center for Tutoring & Academic Support, Career Services, CUNY Language Immersion Program (CLIP), CUNY Start, College Now, BTECH, CUE, USIP.

DEAN OF ACADEMIC INITIATIVES WILL:
  • Provide operational guidance and support to academic departments as they design, develop, launch, and evaluate new innovative academic, online and hybrid courses and programs, as well as curricular revisions.

  • Provide leadership to the Transfer Resource Center: oversee Dual Joint Degrees, Articulations, and Reverse Transfer Initiatives.

  • Provide leadership to the Office of Career Services: oversee internships, apprenticeships, and applied learning experiences.

  • Work with various constituents to ensure accurate reporting of curricular matters in all campus publications.

  • Report on and communicate curricular changes from shared governance through the completion of Chancellor’s Reports.

  • Develop and manage workplace-based learning activities, including apprenticeships that will equate to credit‑for‑prior‑learning.

  • Provide leadership to the Office of Grants and Sponsored Programs, including oversight of funded projects.

  • Coordinate activities related to pre‑award, budgeting, and compliance aspects of all grants.

  • Liaise with faculty and professional staff in departments and offices across the College.

  • Work with Department chairpersons and Office of the Registrar on course substitutions and waivers.

  • Develop K-16 partnerships, including BTECH and College Now, and administer their budgets.

  • Provide leadership to immersion programs, including CLIP, CUNY Start, and manage their budgets.

  • Administer CUE, USIP, and other budgets and projects related to improving student achievement and closing equity gaps.

  • Provide leadership to the Center for Tutoring and Academic Support.

  • Leverage academic technology initiatives to enhance student success and close equity and achievement gaps.

  • Represent OAA on matters related to transfer and articulation with external campuses, both within CUNY and beyond.

  • Identify and apply for grants related to academic innovation and strategic initiatives.

  • Communicate and promote program objectives and offerings to potential and current students, other educational institutions, community organizations, staff, instructors, and others.

  • Establish formal partnerships/alliances and collaborate with industry and external educational institutions, educational initiatives, and/or programs.

  • Responsible for supervising and developing the assigned areas' annual budgets and contractual commitments according to established procedures; control and oversight of assigned program budgets; and specially funded budgets.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Provost.

QUALIFICATIONS

All executive positions require a minimum of a Bachelor's degree and eight years’ related experience. Additional qualifications are defined by the College.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Administration and supervisory experience in higher education, preferably in a community college setting and/or public institutions.
  • Experience in managing budgets and personnel.
  • A history of publication in a discipline and/or in pedagogy.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Proven ability to develop budgets and obtain funding for complex instructional programs.
  • Proven ability to leverage data collection and assessment to improve academic initiatives.
