New York Edge is New York’s leading provider of after-school programs.

The mission of New York Edge is to help bridge the opportunity gap among underserved students by providing programs designed to improve academic performance, health and wellness, self-confidence, character and attitudes for success in life.

The Artist in Residence will provide the educational needs of the assigned site for Champions After-School Arts Activities. The activities include various art genres. The Artist in Residence will take a lead in implementing programs that are designed to deliver NYE experiences in the arts and foster use of curriculum and lessons that can be implemented on site. They will utilize and adapt the New York State Arts Learning Standards in order to create an engaging and awarding activity that encourages participation.

Responsibilities include following NYE lessons, projects and objectives that meet the individual student’s needs. They foster an atmosphere of fun and learning and serves as a role model to youth, always conducting themself in the utmost professional manner and maintaining appropriate boundaries.

This program is designed to run at a site for 4-6 weeks and create safe spaces for our youth that are inclusive of diversity, equity, culture, creativity and social emotional learning competencies. NYE wants to create holistic learning experiences for all students and provide enrichment opportunities to help them grow as young artists and individuals. The Artist in Residence will implement project alignment to the overall mission of the art department.

Artists in residence will be able to offer a wide spectrum of artistic programs on site, have well-rounded experience and turn-key their knowledge into after school art programs. Specialists should be willing and able to work at and travel to multiple sites they are assigned to during the school year and summer.

The Artist in Residence will report to the Director of Art and Artist in Residence Coordinator

Part Time:
Up to 15 Hours per week; $22/hour

• BA or BFA in the Arts
• Minimum of three to five years of work-related skill, knowledge, or experience is required
• Must have passion for NYE mission and demonstrated interest in the field of education and youth development
• Candidates who are qualified in more than one activity are preferred
• Must have a personal art practice and experience in a variety of art media
• Must have knowledge in arts terminology, history and resources
• Must have prior experience successfully teaching and instructing youth in one or more arts genres
• Requires experience working with kids, teaching to various age levels and/or working inside the public schools

• Delivers the educational needs of the NYE Arts activities
• Implements the Curriculum Experiences aligned with NYC and National standards for School Year & Summer Programs
• Implements residencies at various assigned sites for suggested weeks, days and times
• Provides resources, materials and knowledge to increase program quality
• Initiates and maintains relationships with students and site staff
• Must pass pre-employment background investigation including but not limited to employment history and criminal background check.
