Academic Advising Specialist (HEOa) - School of Education
POSITION DETAILSThe School of Education at The City College of New York (CCNY) seeks an Academic Advising Specialist to provide comprehensive advising services to undergraduate and graduate students in the division. The Academic Advising Specialist will report to the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services of the School of Education.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Working with the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services of the School of Education to coordinate, schedule, and deliver academic advising/registration activities for undergraduate and graduate students in the division.
- Collaborating with program directors and other academic divisions and service areas to maintain accurate academic program information and resources.
- Designing academic plans/contracts for students on probation in consultation with the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services and program directors.
- Ensuring students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services utilizing multiple technologies, including the College’s student-facing systems and project management software.
- Working with students to resolve academic issues, providing information, alerts and/or referrals.
- Performing degree audits in line with accreditation and College schedules
- Maintaining and monitoring divisional records on persistence and retention of students in Education majors.
- Representing the School of Education at admissions events, orientations and coordinating advising website pages
- Maintaining databases and writing reports related to the impact of advising on enrollment, student success, satisfaction and program completion.
- Assisting the Dean and the Assistant Dean of Enrollment and Student Services with other projects, as needed.
Bachelor's degree and four years' related experience required.
Preferred Qualifications:A Master’s degree is preferred. The preferred candidate will have a strong work ethic; excellent oral and written communication skills; and exceptional interpersonal, computer, and computational skills. Experience handling confidential matters and materials and working with a highly diverse faculty, staff, and student body in a college or university are essential.

- Ensures students are provided with consistent, accurate, and prompt advising services, coordinating with academic departments
- Works with students to resolve academic issues, providing information and/or referral
- Develops orientation programs to engage and retain students and instructs students, faculty and staff on use of advising technologies
- Conducts assessments to strengthen advisement programs
- Organizes and facilitates training for faculty advisors
- Develops print and online communication materials
- May supervise office operations and budget
- Performs related duties as assigned.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITSSalary Range: $73,294 - $85,556. Salary commensurate with education and experience.
