Assistant Professor - Criminal Justice
FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT The Behavioral and Social Sciences Department is committed to the intellectual development and civic empowerment of all students through offerings that provide an understanding of human behavior and the social and historical evolution of societies, nation states, and modern systems of political and legal governance. Through specific offerings in the disciplines of sociology, psychology, anthropology, social work, political science, public policy and administration, paralegal studies, criminal justice, history, and economics, students are encouraged to explore their society, its diversity, and acquire knowledge about the actions of individuals, institutions and key governance structures.
The department offers liberal arts options and degree programs in public policy and administration, criminal justice, and paralegal studies. The department is committed to the enhancement of opportunities for historically underserved communities, including ethnic, racial and linguistic minorities. The Public Policy and Law Unit of the Behavioral and Social Sciences Department invites applications for a full time tenure-track Assistant Professor position.
In addition to teaching a wide variety of courses in the areas of criminal justice, public policy and administration, police science, and paralegal studies, the position entails performing administrative and guidance duties to include the following:
- Develop and maintain an active research and publication agenda.
- Provide academic support and guidance to students.
- Research and grant development.
- Assume responsibility on unit, department, and college-wide committees including administrative, supervisory, and other functions.
- Develop curricula and participate in assessment projects.
- Essential duties require in-person duties
Ph.D. or J.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
The following qualifications are preferred:
- 3+ years of successful teaching at the undergraduate level
- Evidence of scholarly promise
- Public administration/policy expertise or experience
- Interest in innovative pedagogical strategies, including instructional technology
- Commitment to teaching in an urban college with a diverse and multicultural community
- Availability to work evening and weekend hours
- Experience with on-line instruction (asynchronous/synchronous/hybrid modalities)
- Experience with helping students with career exploration.
$79,630 - $85,556; salary commensurate with education and experience.
