Job Description:

The Psychology Department at the University of Mount Saint Vincent invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning August 2027. Although the area of specialization is open, the department is particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research expertise falls within one of the following areas:

  • Forensic psychology or psychology and law
  • Neurodevelopment/neurodiversity within a neuropsychology, biological psychology, health psychology, school psychology, or educational psychology framework

The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong commitment to excellence in undergraduate teaching and to supporting a diverse student population within an urban liberal arts college. The teaching load is 21 credits per academic year and will include introductory psychology, courses related to the candidate’s area of expertise, and eventually the department’s senior capstone course. The successful candidate will also have opportunities to develop new courses that expand and strengthen the department’s curriculum.

The Psychology Department values faculty mentorship and the active involvement of undergraduates in research. Candidates should demonstrate the potential to maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to the University’s teaching-focused mission and to provide meaningful opportunities for undergraduate research participation.

Service responsibilities include advising Psychology majors, participating in departmental programs and activities, and serving on University governance committees.

Job Responsibilities:

Teaching Load: 21 credits per year, including:
  • Introductory psychology courses
  • Courses in the candidate’s area of specialization
  • Other foundational courses in the psychology major
  • Opportunity to develop new courses for the curriculum
Research:
  • Engage undergraduates in an active research program within the department
  • Research support available through various University funding sources
  • Demonstrate the potential to maintain an active program of scholarship appropriate to the University’s teaching-focused mission and provide meaningful opportunities for undergraduate research participation
Service Responsibilities:
  • Academic advising for students
  • Participation in departmental and University activities
  • Serving on University governance committees
  • Doctorate in Psychology or a closely related field from an accredited institution; candidates who are ABD on track to confer their degree by August 2027 will be considered
  • Teaching or research expertise in one of the department’s priority areas (e.g., biological, cognitive, social, sociocultural, developmental, clinical)
  • Evidence of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in undergraduate teaching
