Digital Marketing
The Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG) is a rare kind of institution: a museum, a world-renowned research library, and one of the world's leading studios and training programs for glass artists, all under one roof. Artists pull molten glass from a 2,000-degree furnace in front of visitors every day, art students train beside working professionals, and the display of the art, science, and technology of glass delights visitors in the museum.
You'll be leading a team to enhance the Museum’s impact with digital tools and experiences.
CMoG has a strong set of digital products serving visitors today, and a new Chief Digital and Information Officer ready to build what comes next. This is your chance to build on what's working and shape our future digital-experience strategy: helping visitors to know more about us and about glass, while helping us learn more about them, what they want and what inspires them.
Consider this role if you want real ownership of the digital visitor experience, online and on site, with the latitude to try new ideas and the responsibility to show results, backed by reporting that tells you honestly what's working. You'll do it on a small, nimble digital team where your fingerprints are on everything, in a hybrid role based in Corning, New York.
WhatYou'll Own
The digital visitor experience spans five connected domains: online digital presence, on-site interactive technology, digital collection visibility and access, digital-engagement project budgets, and post-visit engagement. You'll set the strategy and priorities across all, working closely with the departments and technical partners who help deliver each one.
- Digital strategy and program build-out:
Assess our current digital products, identify what to keep, retire, or rebuild, and build the museum's future digital-experience strategy and operating program alongside the CDIO. - Team and vendor leadership:
Support the development of our small internal team of dedicated professionals and build relationships with strong, dedicated vendor partners, using outside expertise to scale capacity as the work grows. - On-site interactive technology:
Own in-gallery digital touchpoints, interactive kiosks, way finding, and AR/VR that shape and enhance the visit in the moment. - Online digital presence:
Own the technical delivery of our website, the pre-visit and digital-first experience, ticketing and member experience, partnering with the Marketing and Communications (Mar Com) team who owns digital communications, and other content experts across the organization on ideas and execution. - Collection access:
Make our collection knowable and explorable for humans and machines through digital channels, online experiences, digital interpretation, and accessible design, so people can engage with it on site and from anywhere, whatever their ability. - Operational infrastructure:
Partner with the Manager, Digital Platforms and Technical Development on the systems, data, vendors, and platforms that keep the digital experience reliable behind the scenes. - Friction and delight:
Continuously simplify the visitor journey, ticketing, way finding, signage, while introducing new digital touchpoints that create memorable moments, tested and measured, not novelty for its own sake. - Digital product alignment: an expert in understanding the real problem, making decisions with imperfect information, aligning people with different priorities, and knowing when to say yes and no.
- Post-visit engagement:
Own the technical delivery of how visitors reconnect with us after they leave, membership touchpoints and the platforms behind follow-up communications, partnering with Mar Com on the content that keeps their connection to us and to glass alive. - Brand stewardship:
Deliver on our strong brand in every digital touchpoint, working with marcom to carry brand strategy and guidelines faithfully into technical execution, so the digital experience feels unmistakably us. - Cross-functional leadership:
Partner with curatorial, collections, marketing, communications, advancement, education, publications, the library and more, as needed, so digital experience decisions support the full visitor journey those teams shape, rather than any one department working in isolation. - Reporting, insight, and iteration:
Build the dashboards, KPIs, and feedback loops that tell us whether an initiative is working and what visitors want and delight in, then put a test-measure-adjust discipline behind every initiative based on what that data…
