Clearlight Energy focuses on providing operational excellence to supply critical energy capacity and meet growing demand. It also has a 1,200 MW development pipeline of additional renewable resources to support grid reliability and decarbonization.

About the Role

A leading asset operator, investor, and developer focused on the energy markets in the United States. The successful candidate will actively manage positions stemming from a portfolio of assets (solar, wind, battery storage) and optimize and hedge risks such as intermittency, congestion, and DART spreads. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of the fragmented power markets across the United States, sound knowledge of trading products, analytical and programming capability, and structuring expertise.

Compensation

Salary: $170,000 - $190,000 (NYC). This range may be adjusted in the future.

Responsibilities
  • Perform market analysis to determine short‑ and long‑term trading opportunities in commodity markets (Power, FTRs, emissions, RECs, natural gas, power basis).
  • Negotiate and execute bilateral agreements to hedge existing positions and supporting guarantees (e.g., busbar deals, basis lock‑ups, RFPs).
  • Use fundamental analysis to research market dynamics and assess trade and hedge positions.
  • Co‑develop tools and integrated systems supporting the trading activity (stack models, bidding tools, dashboards).
  • Monitor market, industry, product and pricing trends.
  • Assist with structuring and negotiating documentation to put trades into place.
  • Provide asset valuation support for company acquisition and development activity.
  • Maintain close interaction with operational teams, collecting real‑time asset insights and using market info to inform operational decisions (e.g., maintenance, LD estimates).
  • Present hedge strategies and results to executive committees and broader groups (finance, operations, legal, asset managers).
  • Develop power generation hedging strategies across market regions to maximize profitability and minimize margin volatility.
  • Focus hedging on gross margin value streams such as power, ancillaries, and capacity.
  • Formulate risk management and trading strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with strategic objectives and existing risk controls.
  • Apply statistical and econometric analysis to raw Power and Gas datasets to draw robust predictive conclusions.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum five years of trading, structuring, and/or analytical support experience within the power industry.
  • Analytical, modeling, and fundamental research skills with demonstrated programming capability (writing, reading, editing code).
  • Working knowledge of trade capture and programming systems.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to work on multiple simultaneous projects with minimal supervision and strong follow‑through.
Preferred (Optional) Experience
  • Deep experience in one or more U.S. energy markets.
  • Experience with intermittency resources (wind or solar farms).
  • Understanding of risk management metrics and thresholds.
  • Proficiency handling complex datasets using Excel and Python; SQL queries a plus.
