Overview

Instrumentation & Controls Engineer role at Mitsubishi Power Americas.

Role Overview

The Instrumentation & Controls Engineer will be responsible for:

  • Specification and procurement of instrumentation for large frame gas turbines.
  • Creation and maintenance of all supporting instrumentation documentation.
  • Maintenance of gas turbine control logic documentation.
  • Support project engineering in addressing all customer GT instrumentation needs.
  • Bid assessment and support for new gas turbine builds.
Key Responsibilities
  • Determine customer instrumentation and control contract requirements and delivery dates.
  • Create instrumentation procurement schedules.
  • Create instrumentation technical specifications and requests for quotes.
  • Verify supplier quotes.
  • Verify all instrumentation against system P&IDs and create instrument lists.
  • Instrument loop creation and maintenance.
  • Data sheet creation for instrumentation.
  • Drawing creation for instrumentation.
  • Provide design input documents for I/O lists.
  • Liaise with clients, suppliers, contractors, project management and authorities within cost and time constraints.
  • Collaborate with design engineers, operations engineers, purchasers, sales & marketing and other internal staff.
  • Resolve customer comments on drawings; create and maintain I&C procedures and checklists.
  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving at project sites.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable standards and codes (e.g., ISA, ANSI/NEMA, NFPA, AGA).
  • New vendor qualification as required; travel up to 15%.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Desirable Experience (but not required)
  • Experience with Smart Plant Instrumentation (SPI) and Smart Plant 3D (S3D).
  • Factory Acceptance Tests (FATs) for instrumentation.
  • On-site instrumentation installation support as needed.
  • Start-up, commissioning, operations support and root-cause analysis for equipment failures.

  • Education and/or

    Experience:

    Bachelor's degree in Engineering and at least three (3) years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience in I&C disciplines applicable to power plants.
  • Language Skills:
    Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures; write reports and manuals; present information effectively.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    Working knowledge of relevant mathematical concepts and practical applications.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    Problem solving, data analysis, and interpretation of technical instructions.
  • Computer Skills:
    Proficiency with database, project management, spreadsheet and word processing software; knowledge of diagrams and flow charts.
  • Key keywords (controls, instrumentation, plant control system): SPI, Smart Plant, MK5/MK6, Delta

    V, SIMATIC, BoP, I/O lists, wiring.
  • Key words for instrumentation:
    Pressure transmitters, switches, gauges, valves, thermocouples, RTD, vibration, sensors, CEMS, emissions.
