Senior Geotechnical Engineer
Join Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C. as a full‑time Senior Geotechnical Engineer. The role is primarily based in Orange County, NY, with a flexible hybrid work arrangement that may be located within proximity of other regional offices near Newburgh, NY.
Pay Range$95,000 – $120,000 per year (actual pay based on skills and experience)
Responsibilities- Perform geotechnical computational analysis and design calculations in compliance with project and contract requirements, including monitoring of exploration programs, soil classifications, and engineering analyses.
- Assist with preparation of proposals and engineering reports.
- Support project management across all phases—commencement, organization, tracking, invoicing, and deliverables—collaborating with project teams to ensure high‑quality client deliverables.
- Review work and assignments of junior staff on assigned projects; coordinate other project and senior‑level staff input and tasks.
- Prepare design calculations, sketches, and technical specifications for geotechnical engineering portions of projects.
- Coordinate field work with clients and subcontractors.
- Provide construction observations, review submittals and RFIs, and other construction‑phase services for geotechnical portions of projects.
- Occasionally perform field site visits, utilizing field testing equipment, and analyze data, samples, and test results.
- Perform any other related duties as required.
- 5–15 years of relevant geotechnical engineering experience; valid Professional Engineering License required; project management experience strongly desired.
- BS in Civil Engineering or equivalent; MS in a related field preferred.
- Experience with monitoring of subsurface explorations, soil classification, laboratory testing, shallow and deep foundation design, retaining wall design, dam design, and report writing.
- Effective communication skills with supervisors, clients, contractors, engineers, and inspectors.
- Moderate proficiency with AutoCAD 2020 or newer and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Completion of OSHA 10‑Hour Construction Safety and Health Training within a reasonable period after employment commencement.
- Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle for occasional site travel.
The employee frequently remains stationary, handles documents and equipment, and may occasionally move around job sites—including climbing ladders or navigating terrain. The position may involve lifting up to 31 lbs, prolonged periods of standing, and operation of motor vehicles. Visual acuity, depth perception, and focus adjustment are required. Substance‑abuse testing may be required.
