Assistant Engineer; Civil​/Structural NY HELPS - VID

base pay range: $66,951.00/yr - $94,121.00/yr

• assist in performing structural engineering duties related to the preparation of structural steel or reinforced concrete designs for new construction of state facilities and rehabilitation/repair of state facilities.
• prepare structural drawings and details, specifications, estimates, and/or studies for design projects under the direction of licensed staff.
• coordinate design drawings and related specifications, construction costs estimates, etc., with the other disciplines.
• assist in scheduling assigned projects according to workload, priorities, and design schedules.
• assist in the review of reports, drawings, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by design consultants.
• assist with the supervision of consultant design work.
• develop and maintain project documentation, including records of meetings, correspondence, and progress
• collaborate with senior designers, project managers, and other stakeholders to ensure project goals are met.
• assist in review of submittals, respond to contractor requests for information, create and/or review information bulletins, and provide similar construction administration and observation during the project’s construction.
• assist with supervision of junior staff.
• additional duties as assigned.

• travel may be required (approximately 20%).
• possession and maintenance of a valid driver’s license issued by the nys department of motor vehicle is required.

* and applicants must meet the following minimum qualifications to be considered for this position:

proof of passing the national council of examiners for engineering and surveying (ncees) fundamentals of engineering examination (fe) and a qualifying bachelor's degree or higher as listed below; or proof of passing the national council of examiners for engineering and surveying (ncees) fundamentals of engineering examination (fe) and one year of full-time qualifying engineering experience as listed below.

qualifying degrees: civil engineering, civil engineering technology, materials engineering, materials science and engineering, metallurgical and materials engineering, structural engineering, or engineering science with a recognized concentration in any of the above listed engineering degrees.

qualifying experience: one year of full-time engineering experience in the analysis and design of steel framing, concrete framing, concrete foundations and seismic design.

this title includes a traineeship opportunity, and applicants must meet one of the following:

• a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering or engineering technology (listed above).
• or
• proof of passing the ncees fundamentals of engineering examination (fe) and one year of full-time engineering experience (listed above).
• or
• current new york state employee with one year or more of qualifying permanent service in a position allocated to a grade 16 or above and eligible for transfer under section 70.1 of the civil service law.

• increased hiring salary added to hiring salary of $74,193 = $9,980.
• salary adjustments for positions at all levels in pearl river: downstate adjustment added to hiring salary for assistant and trainee levels = $4,000.
