The Mechanical Engineer Group Lead specializing in Automated Material Handling (AMH) is a pivotal team member. In this key leadership role, you'll leverage your strong mechanical engineering background to lead and deliver efficient, reliable, and robust material handling solutions. The Mechanical Engineering Group Lead will have a proven track record of hands-on engineering and successful team leadership.
ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
Leadership:
- Lead, mentor, and grow a group of mechanical engineers focused on project execution.
- Provide oversight and guidance on engineering best practices, project execution process, and implement key project learnings and process improvements.
- Conduct one-on-one touch points and yearly performance reviews for the group members.
Sales and Project Execution:
- Be an active member of project teams ensuring successful project outcomes, providing mechanical engineering expertise during all phases, including conceptualization, detailed design, fabrication, and installation.
- Lead and participate in system development, balancing mechanical design requirements, process functionality, cost, and lead-time constraints.
- Support the sales group by providing project estimates, technical proposal development, and interfacing with third party vendors integrating their respective sub system solutions into the overall proposed design.
- Provide final mechanical design documentation to customers as required by project specifications.
AMH System Design and Development:
- Lead the design and development of mechanical systems for AMH equipment, including conveyors, automated storage and retrieval systems (AS/RS), robotic work cells, and other material flow solutions.
- Create comprehensive mechanical designs, including detailed layouts, assemblies, and precise manufacturing drawings using AutoCAD or Solid Works.
- Select and integrate appropriate mechanical components such as motors, gearboxes, bearings, actuators, and structural elements, optimizing for performance and longevity in AMH applications.
- Reverse engineer proprietary or legacy equipment or components. Identify root causes of failure and design compatible replacement parts for discontinued components.
EDUCATION & TECHNICAL EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
- 10+ years of progressive engineering and leadership experience in the mechanical design of automated handling, assembly, or processing systems.
- Participate in 24x7 on call when required.
- Technical
Skills:- Demonstrated proficiency in AutoCAD and Solid Works.
- Experience with structural design analysis and FEA.
- Experience with complex robotic system mechanical integration, including end-of-arm tooling design.
- Practical experience with pneumatic and hydraulic systems design and integration.
- Knowledge of industrial electrical systems for machine controls and fundamental electrical engineering principles for robust electromechanical integration.
- Thorough familiarity with industry standards (OSHA, ANSI, ISO) and comprehensive safety requirements for automated machinery.
In compliance with pay transparency requirements, the salary range for this role is $120,000 - $130,000. This is not a guarantee of compensation or salary, as final offer amount may vary based on factors including but not limited to experience and geographic location.
