OverviewHDR is seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Power Engineer to join our national Power Generation team. In this role you will lead the mechanical engineering efforts on power generation projects (natural gas and potentially renewable energy) and may serve as Engineer of Record or Owner’s Engineer on projects for utilities, independent power producers, industrial and institutional clients. The Senior Mechanical Power Engineer will join a highly capable, multi-disciplinary power generation team that supports projects in the utility, IPP, industrial, and institutional sectors. Primary duties typically involve leadership of the project mechanical team, coordination with other engineering disciplines, monitoring and communication of project status, and providing mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects on both technical and contractual levels.
Responsibilities- Lead the project mechanical team and coordinate with other engineering disciplines.
- Monitor and communicate project status, issues, and risk.
- Provide mechanical engineering support for detailed design and owner’s engineer projects (technical and contractual).
- Develop construction drawings, bid specifications, mechanical equipment sizing calculations, technical memos, bid evaluations, code reviews, feasibility studies, reports, and cost estimates.
- Assist in the design and specification of power generation systems for simple cycle, combined cycle, distributed generation, and RICE projects.
- Collaborate with engineers and designers from multiple disciplines on project tasks.
- BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from an ABET-accredited university.
- Minimum 15 years of experience in power generation design.
- Gas turbine, steam turbine and/ or large reciprocating engine experience or subject matter expertise.
- Design experience with simple cycle and combined cycle power generation.
- Previous experience with an engineering power consulting or EPC firm is desired.
- Minimum 10 years of experience, ideally in the fossil power industry with a blend of design and owner’s engineer projects.
- Ability to handle multiple concurrent assignments.
- Excellent communication and analytical skills.
- Willing to mentor less experienced engineers and EITs.
- Proficient at working within an established schedule and budget.
- Travel expected to be less than 10% for client meetings and project site visits.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering.
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in relevant power projects.
- Professional Engineers (PE or P.Eng) license.
- Extensive experience in project execution within the Power Market Sector.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and standard Power Market Sector design software (examples include PLS CAD, AutoCAD, Plant 3D, Auto Pipe, and Revit).

The expected compensation range for this position depends upon skills, experience, education and geographical location.
(Stated benefits are for full-time regular positions. Temporary and part-time roles eligible for limited benefits.) The targeted salary range for this position (based on experience and location) is $108,661 - $204,250.
