Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer
Location: Rochester, Syracuse, Elmira, or Ithaca, NY
Base Pay Range: $90,000 - $120,000 per year
We are currently hiring a Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer in our Building Engineering division at LaBella Associates. The Building Engineering Division provides comprehensive engineering services including mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and structural engineering for new construction, renovations, design/build projects, and special structures across a diverse range of clients.
The Senior Plumbing and Fire Protection Engineer works with clients to provide plumbing and fire protection designs, studies, and technical support to fulfill project requirements. Typical projects involve field work, design, and construction administration services. A successful candidate will be able to work well in a team, lead junior engineers, and help develop new business opportunities. This role offers the opportunity to transition into an office leadership position.
Duties- Supervise plumbing and fire protection engineering staff to develop concepts, strategies, construction documents and engineering reports for new buildings and renovation projects
- Provide mechanical leadership for large multi-discipline design projects, including plumbing, process piping systems, and fire protection design
- Conduct code review of plumbing and fire protection systems
- Design plumbing and fire protection systems for corrections, higher education, laboratory, medical, and other typical market sectors
- Perform fire protection hydraulic calculations using industry software programs
- Interact directly with clients technically by analyzing design options, cost‑benefit comparisons, and communicating results to assist owners in decision making
- Direct plumbing and fire protection project team to meet project goals and maintain quality work product
- Manage mechanical project financial performance and schedule
- Lead client and business development activities including proposal writing and maintaining client relationships
- Minimum of 10 years of experience with a professional A/E services firm (preferred)
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering (preferred)
- Strong writing, organizational, and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure and multitask efficiently
- New York Professional Engineer’s License (preferred)
