Base pay range$40.00/hr - $75.00/hr
Tectonic is seeking a full-time Chief Inspector for upcoming projects in the Hudson Valley and Catskill areas, including Rockland, Westchester, Dutchess, Putnam, Orange, Ulster, Columbia, Sullivan and Delaware Counties. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits package, and opportunities to work on challenging and exciting projects.
Essential Functions
Essential functions of the Chief Inspector position include supervising, coordinating, and tracking the progress of construction projects, assisting and advising inspectors regarding project management, construction, and inspection issues, and alerting supervisors of major or consistent discrepancies. They will also prepare construction documents and records, comply with budget standards, perform inspections as needed, and provide assurance to clients that the project has been constructed in accordance with the contract documents, as well as all related duties as required.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 6 years of experience in civil, highway, or relevant engineering field of which 1 year shall have been in a supervisory capacity;
- Must possess and maintain one of the following licenses/certifications:
- Valid NICET IV Certification in Transportation/Highway Construction;
- Valid NY Professional Engineering license;
- Any other suitable combination of education, training, or experience will be considered;
- NYSDOT experience or other similar public agency or DOT experience is required;
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and written, as well as outstanding interpersonal skills;
- Ability to prepare correspondence, reports, and recommendations concerning construction issues and to establish and maintain project records;
- Must have the ability to obtain OSHA Safety Certifications as required;
- Understand the fundamentals of necessary inspection codes and requirements in order to carry out testing, and must be detail-oriented;
- Requires a valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to and within project sites, as regular daily travel is required.
Physical Requirements
While performing the essential functions of this position, it is frequently necessary to:
- Assume a stationary position,
- Handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job;
- Communicate with colleagues, supervisors, and clients using Company email and telephone systems;
- Move around on the job-site, including ascending or descending on the landscape or on a ladder, and positioning oneself appropriately to access necessary testing materials and equipment, usually for prolonged periods of time,
- Lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. for some types of monitoring and inspections,
- Good visual skills, including focused depth perception, and
- Regular daily operations of a motor-vehicle, which may require remaining stationary for extended periods of time.
