Title:
Civil Engineer III
To be considered for this position, candidates must be serving permanently in the title of Civil Engineer, or be reachable on the promotion list (Exam #4522), or the open-competitive list (Exam #4030), or eligible under the 55-A Program. Proof of filing will be required.
Serves as a Civil Engineer level 3 in the Engineering Review Section of the Division of Bridges, reviewing technically complex city-let bridge and retaining wall projects to ensure compliance with City, State, and Federal standards.
Responsibilities- Reviews design calculations and design drawings at various phases of design and construction.
- Performs seismic analysis and seismic calculations for bridges and retaining walls.
- Performs complex analysis of bridge load rating calculations.
- Performs structural analysis for city-owned bridges to ensure their safety against heavy weight trucks and cranes.
- Performs field inspections of bridges and retaining walls to assess conditions.
- Reviews construction projects for Bridges and retaining walls.
- Supervises subordinates in technical and administrative matters.
- Ability to communicate effectively in verbal and written form.
- Knowledge of AASHTOLRFD Bridge Design Specifications, AASHTO Manual for Bridge Evaluation, NYSDOT Bridge Manual, and NYSDOT Bridge Inspection Manual.
- Knowledge of computer software.
- Four years of full-time, satisfactory experience in civil engineering work.
- A valid New York State Professional Engineer's License.
- A master's degree in civil engineering may be substituted for one year of the civil engineering experience required.
