Position Overview
Sr. Telecommunications Engineer at Jacobs
This role focuses on the design and leadership of telecommunications systems in data center buildings, including structured cabling, wireless, audio‑visual, and other low‑voltage systems. You will mentor junior team members, manage stakeholder relationships, and lead projects as needed.
Base pay range: $ – $ per year

- Lead the BIM designers in the preparation of engineering drawings.
- Create or modify DIV 27 specifications.
- Conduct site visits and review technical documents.
- Coordinate with internal and external stakeholders.
- Sign and seal telecommunications design packages.
- Mentor other team members.
- Work with the lead engineer or department manager to identify process improvements.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Communication Engineering from an ABET‑accredited institution.
- Minimum 8 years’ experience actively designing or leading designs for telecommunications structured cabling systems.
- Comprehensive knowledge of ANSI/TIA, BICSI, NFPA 70, and related standards.
- Proficiency with Bluebeam.
- Strong project management skills and self‑motivation to coordinate with other disciplines, project managers, and clients.
- Experience responding to RFPs and providing quality assurance of telecommunications systems designed by others.
- Experience in startup and commissioning of telecommunications systems.
- Ability to create budgets, maintain project schedules, and identify and mitigate company risk.
- PE license required; ability to obtain multiple PE licenses is desirable.
- 4+ years of telecommunications design experience in data centers.
- Experience with other low‑voltage systems such as security, audio/visual, and wireless.
- Working knowledge of Revit and Navisworks.
- Knowledge of telecom infrastructure for control and security systems.
- Experience with CSI or AIA specification writing procedures.
- Credential as an RCDD.
