The Plant Engineer supports safe, efficient, and reliable operations at the 875 MW gas-fired combined cycle Bethlehem Energy Center, which utilizes three GE 7FA.04 gas turbines and one D11 steam turbine. Reporting to the Operations Manager, this role provides engineering expertise, maintenance support, contractor oversight, and project management to optimize plant performance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities- Engineer and justify plant modifications and improvements.
- Develop specifications for equipment and materials; manage spare parts inventory.
- Oversee contractor/vendor tasks and ensure compliance with corporate programs.
- Maintain plant performance analysis tools; report findings to management.
- Responsible for all GADs entries.
- Develop heat rate curves and load forecasting tools for bidding strategies.
- Administer OSI/PI historical data retrieval and maintain technical library/drawings.
- Manage the Management of Change program and ensure NERC compliance.
- Prepare and administer capital project budgets; support outage planning and work scopes.
- Lead complex projects independently and provide technical guidance to plant personnel.
- Responsible for NERC compliance at site level.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 10+ years in power plant operations and maintenance; combined cycle experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of gas and steam turbine technologies, generators, and control systems.
- Proficiency in Excel, OSI PI software, and performance analysis tools.
- Effective communication, analytical skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Prior NERC compliance experience preferred.
- Knowledge of Root Cause Analysis (RCA) desirable.
- Exposure to varied outdoor environments, including extreme weather conditions, high noise levels, hazardous areas, and diverse work surfaces.
- Frequent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), such as hard hats, safety glasses, respirators, ear protection, chemical suits, hot gloves, and high-voltage protective gear.
- Working near high-voltage equipment and operating heavy machinery, with proper training and safety protocols.
- Entry into confined spaces and potentially hazardous environments, often accompanied by exposure to loud machinery and equipment.
- Physical activities including walking, standing for extended periods, crawling, stooping, sitting, climbing vertical and inclined ladders/stairs.
- Exposure to extreme heat and cold.
- Visual acuity requirements include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Participation in a post-offer physical examination and drug screening, as well as ongoing random drug testing.
- Compliance with strict smoking restrictions in and around the facility.
Applicants must possess a valid driver's license and maintain a clean driving record, as this position requires occasional travel for company business. Candidates should be comfortable operating a vehicle as part of their job responsibilities and must meet any applicable company and insurance requirements.
