IBM Quantum is seeking talented design engineers to join the quantum components team at the IBM Thomas J. Watson Research Center in Yorktown Heights, NY to contribute to the development of advanced high-performance circuits for quantum computing systems. We focus on microwave circuit designs that enable the creation of differentiated solutions for Josephson parametric devices such as quantum limited amplifiers and isolators.
Your role and responsibilities
The successful candidate will contribute to the development of novel readout chains through the design of microwave filters for use with traveling-wave parametric amplifiers (TWPAs) and resonator structures for use in Josephson junction devices. Experience in circuit design of exploratory technologies, such as superconducting circuits, is desirable but not required. Familiarity with non-linear microwave concepts and strong hands-on lab skills are a plus.
We are looking for a team player with strong writing and presentation skills, who is able to create and communicate technical ideas, and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team. The candidate should have experience with relevant development tools, such as Ansys HFSS, Keysight ADS, Cadence, or other industry standard tools. The candidate must be able to work successfully with a diverse and dynamic team of both operational and technical personnel, collaborate with team members, work independently, and take their own initiative.
Required education
Master's Degree
Preferred education
Doctorate Degree
Required technical and professional expertise
- Demonstrated RF/microwave filter design knowledge: notch filters, bandpass filters, diplexers
- Mastery of EM modeling, circuit design and layout tools e.g. Keysight ADS, EMPro tools, Ansys HFSS, Cadence/Clarity tools, COMSOL
- Familiarity with a variety of test equipment, such as vector network analyzers
- Strong background in superconducting circuit design, modeling and test.
- Understanding of non-linear microwave concepts, parametric circuit device behavior and cryogenic circuit performance
- Solid programming knowledge in Python/Jupyter notebooks
