Position Summary
The Senior Manager Operations provides strategic and technical leadership to both Operations Engineering and Fuel Engineering teams. They drive the design and implementation of systems/data to ensure safe, legal and efficient operations of Jet Blue aircraft in the areas of aircraft performance, weight and balance, flight planning, route analysis and fuel performance. They oversee delivery of credible insights and predictive modeling for long‑term planning while supporting day‑of operations and post‑hoc analysis.
The Senior Manager supports Flight Operations, System Operations, and Fuel teams while reporting to the Director of Operations Strategy and Engineering.
- Responsible for team’s compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations and company policies, coordinating discrepancies on behalf of Jet Blue, when needed
- Owns Aero Data System Manual (ASM) and Weight and Balance Manual (WBM)
- Participates in industry meetings on behalf of Jet Blue and internal meetings on behalf of team
- Takes a significant role in the development of crew members to support their engagement, growth, and goal achievement
- Manages company’s relationship with business partners for products that are the responsibility of Operations and Fuel Engineering
- Provides strategic oversight and accountability for the:
- Design, development and implementation of systems for tracking aircraft weight and balance, monitoring aircraft performance, maintaining airport and aircraft data, and providing data to support flight planning and operations
- Development of special procedures for aircraft operations when required by unusual operational situations in cooperation with Flight Operations
- Creation of route analysis including payload‑range studies and airport suitability studies
- Investigation of and root cause determination of operational events and failure
- Identification of negative trends in aircraft performance; ensures corrective action is applied
- Refinement of route‑ and station‑level fuel consumption and purchasing forecasts to ensure planning best reflects potential operational realities
- Identification, investigation, and valuation of potential improvement opportunities to drive lower fuel consumption and carbon emissions
- Identification of forecasted fuel/performance benefits using various analytical and simulation tools in support of business cases
- Validation of forecasted savings for various fuel/performance related initiatives
- Creation of monthly reporting and analytical support for various internal teams
- Contributes to ad hoc operability, aircraft performance, and/or fuel related projects in support of senior leadership
- Builds relationships with partners across the system

- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering; OR demonstrated capability to perform job responsibilities with a combination of a High School Diploma/GED and at least four (4) years of previous relevant work experience
- Six (6) years of engineering experience in the aviation or aerospace industry, preferably in aircraft performance, operations engineering
- Five (5) years’ experience as Senior Engineer or in supervisory/managerial capacity
- Experience communicating with or presenting to senior leadership
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong airline business acumen
- Strong analytical skills
- Strong capabilities with database querying (e.g., SQL) and/or high‑level programming language(s)
- Ability to work under pressure in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
- Able to communicate technical issues in an assertive and tactful manner
- Project management skills
- Excellent multitasking skills
- Available for overnight travel (10%)
- Must pass a pre‑employment drug test
- Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
- Authorization to work in the US is required; this position is not eligible for visa sponsorship
- Advanced Engineering degree
