Senior Project Manager – Hazardous Materials
The Senior Project Manager provides strategic leadership and oversees the full lifecycle of complex environmental projects within the Hazardous Materials Department. This role is accountable for technical excellence, regulatory compliance, client satisfaction, and financial performance. The position requires strong operational leadership, advanced environmental and regulatory knowledge, and the ability to cultivate client relationships while mentoring and guiding technical teams.
Success in this role is defined by the ability to manage competing priorities—schedule, budget, technical integrity, and client expectations—while ensuring strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations. The ideal candidate brings strong environmental expertise, proven project leadership, and business development capability, with experience managing large‑scale, multi‑disciplinary environmental programs.
Key Responsibilities- Lead and manage multidisciplinary environmental projects, including site investigations, remediation, permitting, regulatory compliance, and sustainability initiatives.
- Serve as the primary client point of contact, ensuring clear communication, high satisfaction, and ongoing relationship development.
- Develop and manage project scopes, budgets, schedules, and deliverables to meet client expectations and regulatory requirements.
- Provide leadership, technical guidance, and mentorship to project teams across multiple levels and disciplines.
- Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local environmental regulations and corporate quality standards.
- Prepare, review, and approve technical reports, proposals, and client presentations.
- Monitor project performance and take corrective action to maintain budget, schedule, and technical requirements.
- Support business development, including proposal preparation, client meetings, and participation in industry or networking events.
- Lead risk management, safety compliance, and quality initiatives across all assigned projects.
- Establish project objectives and deadlines while allocating necessary resources for successful execution.
- Serve as the department’s Quality Assurance/Quality Control (QA/QC) authority.
- Minimum 10 years of professional experience in the environmental consulting industry.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related discipline
; Master’s Degree preferred
. - Professional registration or certification strongly preferred (e.g.,
PE, PG, PMP, CHMM
). - Demonstrated success managing complex environmental projects from initiation through completion.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulatory frameworks, including CERCLA
, RCRA
, Brownfield
, OER
, and applicable state and local programs. - Excellent management and communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to lead teams and engage clients effectively.
- Strong analytical and interpretive abilities regarding environmental findings, technical results, and regulatory documentation.
- Comprehensive understanding of regulations and guidance for Phase I and Phase II Environmental Site Assessments
, remediation processes, and environmental compliance standards.
