SOM is seeking a Senior Architect with aviation experience to work on innovative airport schemes across all stages. Candidates should have a minimum of 6 years of experience dedicated to the planning and/or design of airport terminals. This experience could be concentrated in the planning (i.e. analysis, layout, functional planning) of entire terminals and significant expansions of terminals, involving aircraft parking, terminal processor layout and/or concourse/pier configurations and building sections, interface with landside facilities and infrastructure.
A familiarity with international or domestic planning parameters (ADRM, ACRP et al.) is a plus. Experience in terminal design also qualifies if the candidate has played a leading role in shaping the scheme, developing structural systems, integrating mechanical systems and designing elements of FF&E. As important as familiarity with airport terminal design, potential candidates should demonstrate a strong interest in specializing in the field.
The successful candidate will join a congenial and passionate group within SOM and be able to call upon and learn from the gifted architects and engineers across the firm.
- Actively leads a project or distinct portions of a project with periodic supervision by Project Leadership. Exhibits initiative, process innovation, problem solving, and decision quality with a high attention to precision and accuracy at an overall project level.
- Produces, coordinates and/or oversees presentation and contract deliverables such as diagrams, 3D models, drawings, renderings, physical models and animations.
- Effectively communicates internally with project teams and externally with consultants and clients through timely and appropriate written, oral, and visual means.
- Creates and innovates with a strong conceptual design ability. Integrates interdisciplinary criteria to effectively move forward the design of distinct portions of large projects or entire projects of a small scale.
- Actively collaborates at a project, consultant team, and client team level by critically and constructively evaluating ideas. Contributes to and actively participates within the studio and office.
- Demonstrates an advanced understanding of building materials, systems, specifications, codes, details and construction techniques. Is able to enrich design concepts through technical strategies. Identifies and effectively uses appropriate tools to design and document at all project phases.
