Position Summary

The Senior Chemist, Applied Research is responsible for all technical activities related to new/existing formulation, innovation and 1st production scale‑up of new formulations in Congers, NY.

Essential Functions
  • Lead the formulation and development of innovative colored cosmetic products—including emulsions, anhydrous systems, and powders—while driving line extensions, reformulations, and technical improvements across multiple categories.
  • Guide and mentor technicians and junior chemists, ensuring technical accuracy, clear direction, and timely execution of laboratory activities.
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement new formulation technologies and raw materials to meet project goals, balancing cost, regulatory requirements, performance, and client restrictions.
  • Act as a technical partner to clients, providing support through meetings, presentations, troubleshooting, and collaborative development sessions.
  • Work hands‑on with customers when necessary to achieve targeted aesthetics, texture, shade, and performance across assigned projects.
  • Continuously research and evaluate new trends, materials, processing techniques, and innovation opportunities to strengthen the company’s competitive edge.
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Marketing, Manufacturing, QA, Regulatory, Packaging, and global R&D teams, as well as external raw material suppliers, to support seamless project execution.
  • Evaluate preliminary stability, conduct formula adjustments, and document testing results for new and existing formulations.
  • Manage multiple concurrent projects in a high‑speed, deadline‑driven environment, providing updated timelines, risks, and progress reports to leadership.
  • Perform all formula creation, changes, and documentation in DEVEX, following all internal SOPs and development guidelines.
  • Utilize BPM for accurate communication and reporting on project status, testing results, and development decisions.
  • Partner with Corporate Applied Research to align on global standards, share technical learnings, and support worldwide harmonization of processes and formulation knowledge.
  • Support technical transfer activities for both commercialized and pre‑commercial formulations, ensuring readiness for scale‑up and production.
  • Maintain organized, timely documentation of laboratory activities and review progress regularly with the direct supervisor.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a Scientific Discipline such as Chemistry, Biology, Physics, or related field.
  • Strong understanding of cosmetic formulation science, with emphasis on powder technology (e.g., pigments, binders, dispersions, powders processing).
  • Working knowledge of emulsion and anhydrous formulation principles.
  • Familiarity with raw materials, GLPs, GMPs, FDA guidelines, global regulatory requirements, and color cosmetics technologies.
  • 2–4 years of hands‑on experience in cosmetic formulation, preferably including emulsions, anhydrous and powder formulations.
  • Proven ability to thrive in a rapid, deadline‑driven environment, frequently adjusting priorities based on client needs or internal shifts.
