Eligibility

Only candidates who are permanent in the Surveyor title or are reachable on open-competitive list# 5136 may apply. Please include a copy of your notice of results or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

Responsibilities
  • Produce various Land Survey Map deliverables for DDC capital construction projects including Topographical/Property Line, Damage/Acquisition, Highway/Sewer Plan and Profile maps using AutoCAD, Carlson, or Civil 3D applications.
  • Review all completed maps for accuracy, completeness, and conformity with established standards.
  • Prepare project progress reports, attend meetings, and assist in preparing presentations.
Authorization Required

Authorization to work in the United States is required for this position. NYC Department of Design and Construction does not provide sponsorship for international employees for visa applications, extensions, or status changes, including STEM/OPT visas. Minimum Qualifications
  • A baccalaureate degree in surveying, surveying engineering, surveying engineering technology, or a similar surveying‑related major and two years of full‑time satisfactory land surveying experience.
  • An associate degree in the same field and four years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
  • A four‑year high school diploma (or equivalent) and six years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
  • A motor vehicle driver license valid in the state of New York, maintained for the duration of employment.
Additional Qualification Requirements
  • Assignment Level I – B requires at least one additional year of experience, for a minimum of 3 years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
  • Assignment Level II requires two additional years, for a minimum of 4 years of full‑time satisfactory experience.
  • Assignment Level III requires three additional years, for a minimum of 5 years, and meeting license requirements.
Additional License Requirements

Registration as a New York State Land Surveyor is required for appointment to Assignment Level III. A Surveyor – Assignment Level II must be a registered New York State Land Surveyor to officially sign off on land surveying work.

Preferred Skills
  • Minimum experience requirements in land surveying or civil engineering.
  • Familiarity with land surveying practices and procedures in the 5 Boroughs of NYC.
  • Proficiency in all aspects of CADD, and ability to read and understand as‑built and/or record information from various utility sources.
  • Working knowledge of Civil 3D.
