About the Role
As a Resident Engineer at HDR, you will help shape the systems that move people and goods safely, efficiently, and sustainably. You will work within the Transportation Business Group, collaborating with planners, engineers, architects, construction managers, environmental specialists and more to solve complex mobility challenges.
Responsibilities- Manage a staff of construction professionals, including Assistant Resident Engineers, Office Engineers and Field Inspectors.
- Manage one or a portfolio of projects at transportation facilities such as tunnels, bridges, terminals, airports, transit systems and ports.
- Run construction progress meetings and oversee project schedule, cost, QA/QC inspections, testing, acceptance and turnover.
- Process change orders and negotiate construction claims.
- Coordinate with contractors to plan and execute construction in coordination with facility operations.
- Provide guidance and leadership to less‑experienced field staff as needed.
- Perform other duties as needed.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related field.
- 10+ years’ experience in construction, with 3+ years as an Assistant Resident Engineer on major transportation/infrastructure projects for public agencies such as PANYNJ, MTA, NJ Transit, NJTA, NJDOT.
- Excellent organizational and communication skills.
- OSHA 30‑hour training.
- PE license in New York or New Jersey.
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Technology, or equivalent education and experience.
- Minimum of 5 years progressive construction experience on multidisciplinary projects.
- Fundamental understanding of contracts and familiarity with construction codes and laws.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications, identifying discrepancies or conflicts.
- Team‑oriented work style with strong computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and Primavera or related construction software.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Compensation ranges from $106,138 to $151,625 for a full‑time regular position based in New York, NY.
