Bioprocess Engineer

The Role

We’re looking for a Bioprocess Engineer with strong mammalian cell culture experience and hands-on benchtop bioreactor skills. This role is primarily focused on in-lab experimentation, testing, and close collaboration with our internal R&D engineering teams.

In your first few months, you’ll be in our Brooklyn lab running our systems and learning about our products. Over time, you’ll contribute to testing new product features, improving product performance, and building best practices for how our systems are used in cell culture workflows. Expect a dynamic, startup-style environment where priorities shift quickly and every week looks a bit different.

• Run cell culture processes in our benchtop bioreactors, optimizing parameters and monitoring performance.
• Develop and document best practices for using Caladan systems in cell culture workflows.
• Design and execute experiments to test new features, hardware improvements, and software updates.
• Troubleshoot product issues and provide actionable feedback to our internal engineering team.
• Work closely with R&D and product engineering to refine system performance and inform new product development.
• Perform lab upkeep, including inventory management and ensuring cleanliness.

• 3+ years of hands-on experience running bioreactors (cell culture required, microbial experience nice-to-have).
• BS or higher in Chemical Engineering, Biological Engineering, Biotechnology, Microbiology, or related field — or equivalent experience.
• Deep familiarity with cell culture best practices, process parameters, and analytical techniques.
• Strong troubleshooting skills and adaptability in fast-changing situations.
• A driven self-starter who thrives in sometimes ambiguous situations.

• Experience with both cell culture and microbial fermentation.
• Experience with a wide variety of bioreactor brands and volumes.
• Experience with auto-sampling systems.
• Ability to write and refine Python scripts to enhance process control, automation, and data analysis.
