Overview
Tectonic Engineering Consultants, Geologists & Land Surveyors, D.P.C. is seeking full-time Construction Site Inspectors & Engineers with rail transit experience for upcoming MTA Transit projects (NYC Transit, Metro North Railroad, Long Island Rail Road, Staten Island Railway, Bus, etc.), as well as for upcoming NJ Transit and Amtrak projects.
Base pay range$43.00/hr - $85.00/hr
Responsibilities- Performs construction inspection on rail transit projects, including commuter railroads, subways / rapid transit systems and light-rail systems. Work will involve rail infrastructure elements, such as stations, facilities, shops, yards, signal systems, communication systems, power systems, bridges and viaducts, tunnels, track systems, drainage, structural elements, fare payment systems, vertical transportation systems, security systems, and related work.
- Monitors contractor’s daily activities and uses applicable field testing and inspection procedures and equipment to perform required field inspections and testing.
- Prepares daily field inspection reports and communicates deficiencies observed in the field to Project Managers, Resident Engineers, contractors, and/or client representatives.
- Interprets drawings, specifications, and other construction documents, including work orders and build documents.
- Follows and enforces company and project safety and quality management protocols.
- All related duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
- Minimum of 2 years of relevant rail transit inspection or equivalent rail transit design/construction experience; experience with public agencies is a plus.
- BS Degree or equivalent in Civil, Structural, Electrical, Mechanical Engineering, Architecture, or Construction Management preferred.
- Applicable NICET certification(s) preferred.
- Ability to understand and interpret written specifications, plans, and construction documents for work orders and build documents.
- Ability to effectively communicate with clients, supervisors, and contractors regarding project requirements, specifications, work quality, and qualification test results.
- Detail-oriented, with the ability to detect non-conformities and complete detailed reports in a timely manner.
- A valid, clean driver’s license and personal vehicle to travel to job sites is preferred.
- Willingness to work nights and weekends as needed.
- All other related duties as required to ensure the successful completion of assigned projects.
While performing the essential functions of this position, the employee is frequently required to handle, inspect, and/or feel documents, materials and/or equipment relevant to the job and communicate about the same. The employee is regularly required to move around on project sites and within buildings and other structures, including ascending or descending terrain or ladders, and positioning themselves to access testing materials and equipment, frequently for prolonged periods.
For rail transit projects, the job site may include hazards common to an operating rail transit system, such as trains, electrified third rail or catenary, uneven walking surfaces, and track systems. The employee may lift and/or move up to 30 lbs regularly, and up to 55 lbs occasionally. Outdoor weather conditions, exposure to extreme temperatures, and precipitation are possible.
