Hours:

Full‑Time – 35 Hours

Eligibility

Only candidates who are permanent in the Environmental Engineer title, or who are reachable on the Open‑Competitive (Exam #3111), may apply. Please include a copy of your Notice of Results card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide critical technical assistance and decision support on various projects.
  • Supply clear information about status and requirements for project approvals, including all facets of compliance with the Unified Storm Water Rule.
  • Assist DDC project teams in navigating DEP’s filing pathways, reviewing, and approving permit applications.
  • Review, approve, and disapprove Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPPs) and related plans requiring knowledge of hydrology, hydraulics, soils, and stormwater pollution prevention.
  • Perform mathematical calculations, examine and oversee inspections of as‑built plans, review maps, drawings, and specifications for construction, demolition, or alterations related to NYC Stormwater Construction and Maintenance Permits.
  • Prepare associated reports, correspondence, and maintain records.
  • Conduct and attend meetings with project teams to provide updates on project reviews, discuss active DDC portfolio, and filing strategies.
Minimum Qualifications
  • A valid New York State Professional Engineer License.
  • Four years of full‑time experience in environmental engineering. (A master’s degree in environmental engineering from an accredited college is accepted as equivalent to one year of experience.)
  • Experience as a major contributor or project leader on complex projects within the last three years, at least one year of which must involve additional and specific expertise in the disciplines needed to design or construct the project.
Preferred Skills
  • Strong supervisory experience.
  • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and AutoCAD.
  • Knowledge of the operation, design, and construction of the City’s infrastructure system (sewers, water mains, roadways).
  • Familiarity with NYC DOT, NYS DOT, NYC DEP specifications, MUTCD, and AASHTO standards.
  • Comprehensive understanding of NYC infrastructure system and current engineering practices.
  • Experience with current engineering and landscape architectural methods and standards.
  • Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment and multitask with staff at all levels in the agency.
  • Proficiency in Primavera P6 scheduling, International Society of Arboriculture (ISA), Envision Sustainability Professional (ENV SP), and Design‑Build Institute of America (DBIA) accreditation(s) (preferred).
  • Valid driver’s license (required).
  • Personal vehicle (optional).
