Compensation

Salary: $115,000 - $125,000 annually

Work Schedule:

Monday-Friday (weekends if available)

Position Summary

The Track Engineer will support rail-transit projects, ensure design quality, integrate interdisciplinary requirements, conduct field inspections. This role involves collaborating with team managers, multidisciplinary engineering teams, and clients to ensure adherence to the highest standards of engineering excellence.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties
  • Engage in Rail-Transit projects across all design stages from conceptual to final completion.
  • Support the design development and delivery of high-quality technical products for track projects.
  • Orchestrate the integration of interdisciplinary structural, site/civil, and architectural requirements with track plans.
  • Conduct rigorous QC reviews and provide authoritative approval for track designs prepared by other team members.
  • Formulate precise budget estimates and schedules for the track engineering components of projects, ensuring optimal resource allocation and timely delivery.
  • Execute comprehensive field track inspections and develop stringent testing requirements, maintaining the highest levels of safety and operational efficiency.
  • Manage multiple projects within the Right of Way (ROW), collaborating effectively with other track staff to ensure seamless project execution and coordination.
  • Understanding of turnout componentry/special track work and its functionality, and its design and typical procurement process.
Required

Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelors degree
    (or equivalent experience/education)
  • Professional Engineer (PE) License
  • 5+ years of experience in rail transit signaling and train control systems
    (or equivalent experience/education)
  • Knowledge and proficiency in MTA New York City Transit Design and Engineering including commuter/heavy rail criteria, specifically with Long Island Rail Road, Metro North Railroad or New Jersey Transit criteria
  • Proficiency in Light Rail Track Design and Engineering
  • Proficiency in AREMA Guidelines, track geometry, various Rail-Transit client requirements/standards, and the Design-Bid-Build and Design-Build process
  • Experience developing client focused design criteria that will drive calculations towards the production of real-world track geometry and components that will then undergo applicable QA/QC review and validation
  • Experience with leading the presentation of track data/findings and explaining such information to a non-track or non-technical audience.
  • Ability to travel to meet with clients and attend site meetings. Ability to be ROW safety trained and meet FRA criteria to be on active railroad sites
  • Familiar with project management and design workflow tools such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Procore
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively within a team
  • Highly organized with strong time management capabilities
  • Physically able to navigate construction sites
    (standing, climbing, stooping, crouching)
  • Willingness to work outdoors and conduct field surveys
  • Comfortable in all weather conditions and high-noise environments
