The Role:In your role as an Electrical Designer you will lead and contribute to the successful design, production, coordination and management of Traffic Signal Design and Lighting projects. You will develop traffic signal, lighting or auxiliary systems designs in AutoCAD and/or Microstation such as layout, single line diagrams, wiring schematics, photometric layouts, grounding details, prepare and review wire sizing, voltage drop and conduit capacity calculations.
You will also be responsible for coordinating utilities for electrical infrastructure and transportation-related design and construction projects along with preparing technical reports, tender documentation, and providing field support such as commissioning, traffic signal turn-on, and site inspections. You will ensure that Engineering deliverables (e.g., drawings, specifications, analysis, budget estimates) comply with applicable regulations, standards, corporate procedures and sound engineering practices, review drawings to ensure accuracy, completeness and quality of technical information and project documentation in accordance with QA/QC programs and ensure that project deliverables are met in a timely manner to a high quality including engineering drawings and preparing final reports.

- Preparation of lighting and traffic signal layouts
- Preparation of wiring diagrams and electrical details
- Photometric analysis of lighting systems
- Voltage drop calculations
- Preparation of contract documents and specifications
- Site visits and contract administration
Minimum Requirements:
- Undergraduate degree or Technologist diploma in Electrical Engineering
- 5+ years of relevant work experience in construction design-consulting
- 5+ years relevant experience in traffic signal and street lighting design, ideally in a design-consulting or utility environment
- Knowledge of various municipal and MTO lighting and traffic signal design standards
- Working knowledge of Ontario Traffic Manuals (Book 12, 12A, 15, 5, 6 &
7), Lighting Standards (IESNA RP-8), Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC), Highway Traffic Act (HTA), Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices Canada (MUTCDC), and Technical Manuals published by the Transportation Association of Canada - Must be proficient with computer aided design software such as Microstation and AutoCAD
- Must be proficient with light calculation software such as AGI
32 or Autolux - Experience with O.Reg 22/04 certification and liaising with utility authorities
- Experience with pole loading software i.e. SPIDAcalc or equivalent is an asset
