What We Offer
WSP is currently seeking an Assistant Vice President, Architect for our New York City office, leading projects within the Transportation Facilities Group. Candidates will work on a range of transportation and infrastructure projects across the NY Metro Region and beyond.
Duties and Responsibilities- Lead and develop project teams to deliver solutions that meet project goals
- Assemble and guide design teams, shaping vision and approach
- Apply advanced architectural techniques across all project stages – concept, design, procurement, construction, and operation
- Conduct complex investigations of site conditions, building, facilities, and transportation channels to ensure compliance with regulations and permits
- Manage design, construction, rehabilitation, and remediation projects, ensuring durable materials and structural integrity
- Develop and implement advanced technologies, materials, modeling techniques, and operating strategies for safe, future‑ready solutions
- Oversee large‑scale architecture projects, prepare budgets, track hours and expenses, and supervise subcontractors and staff
- Review and approve permits, design plans, specifications, and construction inspections to meet state and federal standards
- Engage with public and private entities to discuss architectural and construction challenges
- Mentor staff and foster professional development
- Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Coordinate project status updates with New York City office senior management
- Utilize project management tools for scheduling, budgeting, and risk tracking
- Adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct, managing company resources responsibly
- Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs
- Bachelor’s Degree in Architecture with facility‑type experience
- 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience
- Professional licensure – Registered Architect in NY
- Proficiency in architectural principles, design/build, and project work
- Strong creative, visualization, and technical drawing skills
- In-depth knowledge of construction laws, codes, and compliance practices
- Expertise in technical computations, plan interpretation, and factual comparisons
- Experience conducting inspections and investigations for building design and construction
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills for diverse audiences
- Strong leadership and client‑facilitating abilities at all organizational levels
- Ability to work independently and guide mid‑ to senior‑level teams with QA/QC emphasis
- Effectiveness in coordinating subcontractors to safely complete tasks
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP health and safety policies
- Flexibility for varied schedules and rapid adaptation in a high‑pressure environment
- Experience in building design and design‑build delivery methods
- Transportation industry experience
