WSP is currently initiating a search for a Senior Lead Plumbing Engineer (Buildings) for our New York, NY office location to work with our Northeast Property & Buildings Region
.

Overview

This role requires the independent evaluation, selection and substantial adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures and criteria. The successful candidate will plan and conduct work, organizing and controlling project elements, and work closely with Project Managers or Senior Project Engineers for technical review and guidance.

Responsibilities
  • Develop and evaluate system concepts and options to determine the best design and engineering solution for each project based on project scope.
  • Develop design drawings and specifications for plumbing and fire protection systems, including calculations of preliminary water, gas, sanitary/sewer, and storm loads while adhering to the firm’s QA/QC process.
  • Interface with clients to discuss changes to designs and/or specifications.
  • Perform systems analysis and prepare reports and studies as well as cost estimates.
  • Directly responsible for distribution of all approved drawings and specifications.
  • Coordinate with other design team members—including architect, mechanical and structural engineers—to ensure plumbing and fire protection systems are integrated with all trades.
  • Work as a team member with construction team project manager, fabrication and installation crews.
  • Examine field conditions as required to support development and completion of projects.
  • Attend meetings with architects, owners and building managers to discuss future and current projects.
  • Work with leadership to manage design manpower budget and update budget to reflect revisions or changes in scope.
  • Represent the company in a professional manner in all dealings with owners, architects, vendors, other design professionals and contractors.
  • Responsible for meeting the client’s project goals and objectives.
  • Assist in business development by pursuing new work including participation in client presentations.
  • Assist in the firm’s human resource efforts through training and mentoring junior firm members.
  • Enhance the firm’s reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing internal and external client requests.
  • Demonstrate core values and serve as a role model/mentor to all firm members.
  • Update job knowledge and technical expertise by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, participating in technical organizations and obtaining certifications in the area of expertise and participating in the firm’s Technical Committee as requested.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Plumbing or Mechanical Engineering, or closely related discipline.
  • 10+ years of relevant post‑education experience in engineering discipline and prior plumbing and mechanical design experience.
  • Engineer license required (multi‑state preferred).
  • Comprehensive knowledge and interpretation of code compliance requirements and industry standards.
  • Strong organizational, prioritization, decision‑making, and analytical skills.
  • Strong verbal, written, analytical, persuasive and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective business development skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision and in a highly collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to consistently set goals and meet deadlines and adapt to flexible responsibilities.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD and Revit software.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook).
  • Experience with Horizon or Project Resource Management software is desired.
  • Ability to meet and exceed client expectations.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree in Engineering.
  • LEED certification desired.
  • 40‑Hour OSHA Health & Safety Training (HAZWOPER) (29 CFR ) preferred.
  • Basic First Aid and Adult CPR training desired.
Compensation & Benefits
