Job Summary

As Chief Engineer, you will oversee and coordinate activities of the maintenance department under the direction of the Director and/or Assistant Director, ensuring all plant and facility systems operate safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize and control plant operations and maintenance activities in accordance with guidelines.
  • Inspect equipment, regulate gas, oil, and water flows, and evaluate operating conditions via logs.
  • Perform daily inspections and adjust/repair equipment as needed.
  • Conduct chemical tests of boiler water, adjust chemicals, and supervise cleaning of boilers.
  • Monitor and maintain chilled water generation equipment, cooling towers, pumps, and related systems.
  • Use BAS and other operator computerized control systems for adjustments and monitoring.
  • Take remedial action for alarm conditions or system failures.
  • Maintain central plant equipment such as emergency generators, MCMs, combustion air fans, and exhaust systems.
  • Operate and monitor medical gas systems (air, vacuum, oxygen, nitrogen, CO₂, etc.).
  • Coordinate preventive maintenance, building repairs, and improvement projects performed by vendors and contractors; inspect completed work and approve payment requests.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience.
  • Preferred:
    Stationary Engineer licensed by NYC Department of Buildings, Refrigeration Engineer licensed by NYC Fire Department.
  • Must obtain Certificate of Fitness A-35, G-71, G-79, and P‑98 or equivalents within 90 days of appointment if requested.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and make sound decisions in stressful situations.
  • Strong customer‑service skills.
  • Effective verbal and written communication.
  • Multi‑tasking, organization, and priority setting.
  • Initiative, responsibility, and flexibility.
  • Commitment to hands‑on, team‑oriented management.
  • Experience in leading, training, and mentoring others.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
