Job Description
Company Overview Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas—including airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special mission aviation, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation. Wherever we operate, we build vertically integrated full stacks of capability—designing, building, and operating turnkey solutions that let customers scale capacity while benefiting from continuous cycles of innovation.
With operators and engineers under one roof, we close the gap between lab and field—what we call connecting design with effect. Metrea’s solutions are built for elegance: effective, efficient, and evolving. This approach enables our partners to do more with less and achieve outsized, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats. Headquartered in Washington, DC, Metrea has facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, Europe, and beyond.
Group Overview:
Electromagnetic and Cyber Group (EM&C) is responsible for developing flexible and survivable advanced electronic warfare and secure communications equipment while providing the industry’s leading signals intelligence, electronic warfare, and cyber experts. Metrea specializes in signal classification, direction finding, advanced geolocation techniques, and waveform development including waveforms for MANET and LPI/LPD applications. Metrea also develops special purpose radios for government customers and licenses DF and geolocation solutions to multiple OEMs.
Position Summary The Radar R&D Engineer will serve as the critical link between radar research concepts and radar prototype realization, ensuring RADLAB’s innovations progress toward operational readiness. This role combines radar systems engineering, advanced simulation, and software integration to deliver validated, reproducible solutions within the ERIS framework. The engineer will develop and maintain radar hardware digital twins, radar hardware-in-the-loop models, and reference radar signal processing implementations, while driving TRL 4 and 5 validation through rigorous simulation campaigns, CI/CD automation, and performance profiling.
Acting as the Radar Systems Engineer for Radar-as-a-Service (RaaS), the R&D Engineer ensures technical integrity, reproducibility, and seamless integration from research to prototype. Role and Responsibilities Integrate radar research demos into the ERIS framework and collaborate with FRANCISLAB to extend ERIS with new modules, APIs, and test harnesses. Develop and maintain digital twins and hardware-in-the-loop (HIL) models to ensure simulations reflect real-world constraints.
Own the RADLAB radar signal processing chain reference implementation, including quality assurance, unit/integration testing, and CI/CD pipelines with golden vector validation. Execute large-scale simulation campaigns (Monte Carlo, sensitivity sweeps, worst-case scenarios) and document findings. Deliver the full TRL4 and TRL 5 validation packages: tagged repositories, containers/wheels, test vectors, golden outputs, reproducible simulations, and CI/CD jobs. Profile system performance (CPU, memory, timing, FPGA implications) and provide resource budgets and optimization recommendations.
Identify and resolve unstated assumptions, gaps or other mismatches in collaboration with the Head of RADLAB. Skills and Experience BS in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics or related field Strong applied signal processing fundamentals and demonstrated ability to implement and validate algorithms, or at least 3 years implementing signal processing algorithms and software-defined radar/RF front ends. Proficiency in software engineering:
Python, C++, CMake, containerization, Python build tools, CI/CD, and test automation (Pytest/GTest).
Experience with simulation frameworks, digital-twin systems, or software-defined radar and RF front ends and radar signal processors. Solid applied math literacy (ability to read and validate derivations and question assumptions). Familiarity with profiling, numerical stability, and large-scale…
