Sr. Energy Engineer
Smith Engineering is seeking a Sr. Energy Engineer to join our team in the New York Metro area. You will split your time between our Manhattan office and various customer sites.

Your RoleWe are seeking a Senior Energy Engineer to focus on energy optimization projects for complex central plant-based facilities. Your role is to design, develop, and evaluate energy options that will reduce costs and/or improve efficiency for complex commercial facilities. You will be expected to be as comfortable in a plant environment with a Chief Engineer as well as presenting to a team of engineers, building managers, and senior management your observations.
Responsibilities:Energy Optimization and Analysis
:
Perform ASHRAE Level 1, 2, and 3 Energy Audits including energy savings calculations utilizing Microsoft Excel, Trane Trace 700, IESVE, or eQUEST modeling software. Analyze utility bills to identify building energy consumption and potential opportunities for reduction. Perform feasibility, energy savings, and cost-benefit financial analyses for potential Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs).Technical Evaluation and Testing
:
Perform field surveys and collect data as required for the preparation of equipment tables, field observations, energy calculations, and building control sequences. Evaluation, analysis, inspection, field testing, and troubleshooting, including but not limited to LL87 retro-commissioning, chiller testing, pump testing, pressure testing, flow testing, etc.Compliance and Design
:
Maintain current knowledge of advances in new and alternative energy options, especially related to construction and design, changes related to ASHRAE Standards, Certification Programs, and NYC/NYS Energy Code. Develop and/or commission energy management routines for automation systems throughout facilities.Client Relations and Coordination
:
Develop and present findings in a professional manner to internal senior staff and customers. Work with vendors and contractors to obtain pricing on potential ECMs.
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering followed by 5-7 years of experience in the building energy efficiency industry (or related field).
5+ years of performing energy audits and Retro-Cx projects (Commissioning/Retro-Commissioning).
Experience in energy conservation measure development, saving and incentive calculations.
A clear understanding and experience in leveraging software tools and developing energy models for complex facilities is a requirement, including eQUEST, IESVE, or Trane Trace 700.
Engineer-in-Training (EIT), CEM, or Certified Building Commissioning Professional license preferred. Professional Engineer (PE) license is a plus.
Must be located within 50 miles of New York City.
