Facilities Maintenance Specialist
We are seeking an experienced Facilities Maintenance Specialist to support maintenance and reliability activities within a pharmaceutical, biotechnology, manufacturing, industrial, or utility environment. This individual will perform preventive and corrective maintenance on process equipment, utility systems, and manufacturing equipment while ensuring safe and reliable operations. The ideal candidate will have strong experience supporting critical utility systems, boiler operations, wastewater treatment systems, and facility infrastructure.
Candidates from military backgrounds, particularly those with U.S. Navy engineering, utilities, mechanical, or power generation experience, are highly encouraged to apply. While GMP experience is preferred, candidates with strong industrial utility and maintenance experience will be considered.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform preventive, predictive, and corrective maintenance on manufacturing equipment, process systems, and utility infrastructure.
- Support and maintain critical utility systems, including:
Clean Steam, Plant/Dirty Steam, Compressed Air, Nitrogen Systems, HVAC Systems, Refrigeration Systems, Industrial Water Systems, Wastewater Treatment Systems. - Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot fire-tube boiler systems, ensuring reliable steam generation and utility support.
- Support wastewater treatment and wastewater modernization initiatives, including system upgrades, optimization projects, and reliability improvements.
- Execute equipment inspections, system walkdowns, startup support activities, functional testing, and operational readiness assessments.
- Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and utility system issues utilizing P&IDs, equipment drawings, SOPs, and vendor documentation.
- Verify field installations and equipment configurations against approved engineering designs, specifications, and quality requirements.
- Create, review, update, and close maintenance work orders within CMMS systems while maintaining accurate documentation.
- Maintain and support bulk chemical systems including acid and caustic storage systems, chemical transfer piping, pumps and associated equipment, chemical offloading systems, wastewater neutralization systems.
- Respond to emergency maintenance requests and equipment failures to minimize operational downtime.
- Document maintenance activities, investigations, repairs, and deviations using systems such as Maximo and Veeva.
- Collaborate closely with Engineering, Validation, Quality, Operations, and Facilities teams to ensure equipment reliability and operational readiness.
- Follow all site safety, environmental, and compliance procedures.
Required Qualifications:
- High school diploma, technical degree, military training, trade certification, or equivalent experience in Mechanical, Electrical, Utilities, Industrial Maintenance, Power Generation, or related discipline.
- 5+ years of experience supporting facilities, utilities, maintenance, power generation, manufacturing operations, or related industrial environments.
- Hands-on experience with critical utility systems and facility infrastructure.
- Experience operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting fire-tube boilers and steam-generation equipment.
- Experience supporting wastewater treatment systems and modernization/improvement initiatives.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Experience using CMMS platforms for maintenance documentation and work order management.
- Ability to read and interpret: P&IDs, Equipment drawings, Technical manuals, SOPs and engineering documentation.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with in GMP-regulated pharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical device, or life sciences manufacturing environments.
- Experience with Maximo CMMS.
- Experience using Veeva or other quality systems.
- Previous military experience, particularly U.S. Navy engineering, nuclear, utilities, maintenance, mechanical, or power-generation roles.
- Experience supporting aseptic manufacturing, sterile processing, or fill-finish operations.
- Experience supporting commissioning, qualification, validation, or operational readiness activities.
- Experience with industrial water systems, wastewater treatment, and chemical handling operations.
