Location: New York
The Utility Engineering Specialist 1 (Gas Pipeline Safety) works in the New York State Department of Public Service's Pipeline Safety Section to ensure the safety and integrity of the state's natural gas, hazardous liquid, and steam pipelines. Responsibilities include conducting compliance audits and inspections of pipeline operators, reviewing facility designs, investigating pipeline incidents, analyzing waiver petitions, and providing engineering analysis for Public Service Commission proceedings.
The role is based in New York City and involves 7% travel.
- Bachelor's degree or higher in an accredited engineering curriculum
- Currently eligible for 55-b/c status (if applying under that track)
- Currently on any Engineering Examination List (encouraged to apply)
- Current New York State employee with one year or more of permanent, competitive, or 55-b/c service as a Utility Engineering Specialist 1 (Gas Pipeline Safety), Grade 18 (if transferring)
