Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineer, Electronics Technician
At Skip-Line, your next circuit will hit the highway.
Smart sensors. Embedded systems. Machines that move. An industry ready for its next big leap. If that sounds more exciting than designing another gadget destined for a drawer, keep reading.
At Skip-Line, we build the brains behind modern pavement marking equipment. Our electronic controls, sensors, and embedded software turn paint trucks into autonomous precision machines that mark highways, roads, and runways smarter, with less waste and better data.
We’re the leading technology company in an industry most people drive past without thinking about. Look closer: there’s real-time control, laser sensing, connected hardware, and a whole lot of engineering between “put paint on pavement” and “get it right at speed.” And we’re hiring a collaborative, passionate, Electrical Engineer to help build what’s next.
Job Location:Adams Center, NY*
* Must reside in Northern or Central New York regions with the ability to commute to our office on a hybrid schedule.
Base Salary:$78,000 - $135,000, based on experience and demonstrated capabilities.
What You’ll Do:You’ll design, build, and test (or sometimes break on purpose) the electronics behind our next generation of hardware. You’ll work side by side with our embedded, product, and production teams. Here’s what that involves:
- Design the electronics behind smart machines: You’ll design and build circuits, boards, and electrical interfaces for controllers, sensors, and connected pavement marking systems.
- Board bring-up: You’ll bring new boards to life by building prototypes, doing board bring-up, and troubleshooting with the persistence the problem requires.
- Lead compliance testing: You’ll plan and prepare for compliance testing, map out what our products need to pass, prep hardware for EMC/EMI testing, collaborate with outside test labs, and keep at it until we pass.
- Make hardware and software play nicely: You’ll collaborate with embedded engineers to investigate system behavior and solve problems across the hardware/firmware seam.
- Make the call. You’ll evaluate compliance requirements, recommend practical priorities, and explain the tradeoffs between design changes, testing, cost, and ship dates; know when to make a decision independently and when to bring in the right expertise.
- Make the next build better. You’ll partner with production teams on testability, component choices, and troubleshooting, so every new board is easier to make, test, and fix.
Through compliance testing, you’ll help build equipment crews can trust and products ready for market.
What You Bring:- A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field.
- Hands-on PCB design and board bring-up experience.
- Compliance testing:
Hands-on EMC/EMI experience, including prepping products for testing, working with outside labs, and turning failed results into design fixes is a must-have. - Working knowledge of microcontrollers, sensors, and communication protocols like CAN.
- Comfort reading schematics, working with electronic components, and using tools such as oscilloscopes and multimeters.
- A methodical debugging habit: gather evidence, isolate the cause, fix it, and verify the fix.
- Ownership, sound judgment, and clear communication.
Real EMC/EMI compliance experience. You’ve been to the test lab, failed a scan and figured out why.
Never been near a paint truck? No problem. Bring your engineering curiosity. We’ll introduce you to the trucks. Why Skip-Line?- Real technology. Visible impact. Our lineup spans precision striping controls, cloud-connected data logging, and laser-based material monitoring. Your work helps crews do a difficult job better.
