At Arup, you belong to an extraordinary collective – in which we encourage individuality to thrive. Our strength comes from how we respect, share and connect our diverse experiences, perspectives and ideas.
You will have the opportunity to do socially useful work that has meaning – to Arup, to your career, to our members and to the clients and communities we serve.
We are looking for a Senior Hydrogeologist / Geothermal Specialist to join our Americas Geotechnics team. The successful candidate will provide technical leadership and hands-on delivery across hydrogeology, groundwater and geothermal projects, working with multidisciplinary teams on infrastructure, water, energy, buildings and major development projects.
The Opportunity
Lead and deliver hydrogeological assessments for infrastructure, energy, water, buildings and major development projects.
Develop conceptual hydrogeological models using geological, geotechnical, groundwater and environmental data to inform engineering design and project decision-making.
Plan, specify and interpret hydrogeological field investigations, including groundwater monitoring, pumping tests, packer testing, permeability testing and groundwater sampling.
Undertake groundwater analyses to assess groundwater levels, hydraulic properties, groundwater flow, seepage, inflows and potential impacts from construction and permanent works.
Evaluate groundwater management strategies for excavations, tunnels, foundations and other below-ground infrastructure, including dewatering, groundwater control and groundwater cut-off measures.
Develop and review analytical and numerical groundwater models appropriate to project needs, using industry-standard groundwater modelling and data-analysis tools.
Assess potential effects of groundwater abstraction, drawdown and groundwater-level changes on surrounding ground, structures, utilities, water resources and the wider environment.
Support the planning and design of Geoexchange/Ground Source Heat Pump systems, involving the assessment of subsurface conditions, groundwater characteristics and geothermal potential.
Plan and interpret geothermal field investigations and testing programs, including thermal response testing and aquifer testing where applicable.
Prepare and review hydrogeological and geothermal calculations, technical reports, specifications, investigation scopes, tender documentation and construction-phase technical responses.
Manage communications with Client and the Project Engineer to understand the project requirements and set clear scopes and budgets for delivery.
Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, energy, geotechnical and other engineering teams to develop project specific solutions related to groundwater and geothermal systems.
Support permitting and regulatory activities by providing the technical hydrogeological input required by project and permitting teams.
Provide construction-phase support, including interpretation of monitoring data, field conditions, contractor submittals and RFIs.
Coordinate with drilling contractors, specialist subcontractors, testing laboratories and field teams to deliver high-quality investigation and monitoring programs.
Manage technical work streams within agreed scope, schedule and budget, identifying technical and delivery risks and communicating these effectively to project teams and clients.
Mentor and provide technical guidance to junior engineers, geologists and hydro-geologists.
Provide technical input to bids and proposals and support the development of hydrogeology, groundwater and geothermal opportunities across the Americas.
Provide commercial input through setting of budgets and timelines with external and internal Clients.
