Summary of RoleGlobal Foundries is seeking a Device Modeling Engineer to develop, validate, and deploy predictive models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, and other emerging quantum-enabling devices. This role will translate fundamental device physics and measured electrical, optical, RF, and cryogenic behavior into simulation-ready models and libraries for Quantum Process Design Kits (QPDKs), heterogeneous integration, and customer design flows.
Essential Responsibilities- Develop physics-based, behavioral, and compact models for superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, cryogenic passive, and other emerging non-CMOS devices.
- Plan and execute model-extraction and validation workflows using electrical, optical, RF/microwave, and cryogenic characterization data.
- Correlate model behavior with measured device data, multiphysics simulation, and fundamental device physics; identify model limitations and drive corrective actions.
- Define device structures, process parameters, and characterization vehicles required to extract and validate scalable models across geometry, temperature, frequency, optical wavelength, and operating conditions.
- Implement and qualify models within circuit, electromagnetic, and photonic simulation environments, including regression testing, convergence checks, documentation, and release readiness.
- Develop model libraries and design collateral for QPDKs and heterogeneous integration platforms, including validated symbols, parameter sets, interfaces, and recommended design-use conditions.
- Collaborate with device, process, integration, characterization, packaging, PDK, EDA, and circuit-design teams to translate emerging technologies into usable design capabilities.
- Communicate model assumptions, validation results, known limitations, and usage guidance through technical reports, application notes, and design reviews.
- Perform all activities in a safe and responsible manner and support all Environmental, Health, Safety & Security requirements and programs.
- Work and collaborate on other projects and/or assignments as needed.
- Education
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Photonics, Microelectronics, Quantum Engineering, or a related field. - Experience
- Minimum 5 years of experience in device physics, device modeling, multiphysics simulation, parameter extraction, or characterization of superconducting, photonic, optoelectronic, RF/microwave, or other non-CMOS devices. Final experience requirements should be aligned with GF scoping guidelines for the approved job level. - Strong foundation in semiconductor and solid-state device physics, with demonstrated ability to translate physical behavior into predictive simulation models.
- Hands‑on experience modeling at least one non-CMOS device class, such as Josephson‑junction devices, SQUIDs, superconducting resonators or interconnects, wave guides, modulators, ring resonators, photodetectors, lasers, or cryogenic passive structures.
- Experience correlating models with measured electrical, optical, RF/microwave, or cryogenic data and defining validation criteria across relevant operating ranges.
- Proficiency in scientific programming and data analysis using Python, MATLAB, or equivalent tools in a…
