DescriptionThe Lighting Supervisor is responsible for the overall operations of the lighting department between Bratton Theater and the black box at the Roe Green Theater Center. Provides mentorship to junior staff and the lighting design fellow.
The Chautauqua Theater Company summer season will consist of fully produced productions, as well as several new play workshops/readings. We build our season around the Actor’s Equity Safety Guidelines in addition to following the guidelines of the CDC, IATSE, USA and SDC.
In-season compensation for this salaried position is $1,200/Week. Contracted work will be for up to 13 weeks, starting in June. Chautauqua Theater Company also provides up to $250 in travel reimbursement with receipts provided.
Pre-season:
Part-time work will be remote and begins in early January. Compensation for the pre-season work will be $30.00/Hour.

About Your Work Day
- In conjunction with the Production and Facilities Manager, supervise and schedule the electrics crew, including IATSE and non-union labor.
- Facilitate the planning and load-in of production lighting equipment at the top of season as well as for each production.
- Ensure the maintenance all production lighting equipment.
- Manage the lighting department budget; provides detailed expenditure information to the Production and Facilities Manager.
- Provide mentorship to lighting staff and the lighting design fellow.
- Order all equipment and supplies for the lighting department upon approval.
- Facilitate and supervise the removal of all lighting equipment.
- Attend all production meetings.

About Your Schedule
Chautauqua Institution and Chautauqua Hotel Company offer flexible schedules, full and part-time, for seasonal employment during summer operations starting annually each June and concluding in August. Seasonal employment may be available earlier (pre-season) and beyond season (post-season) based on business needs and candidate availability. Schedules typically include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays as a requirement.
While you will confirm your final schedule with management at the time of an interview and offer of employment, you should generally anticipate the following schedule options for this position:
A typical work week is 5-6 days, averaging 40 hours per week once on the grounds. Scheduled hours will include evenings, weekends, and holidays based on business needs.

Chautauqua Institution may provide limited housing options on our grounds or assist you with locating nearby housing arrangements for select opportunities based on business needs. Housing is not an option for many positions and may be of a cost to you. Candidates should assume there are no employer-provided or employer-assisted housing options available for this position unless it is otherwise stated.
This position offers employer-provided housing and parking. Housing includes a private bedroom and shared living space. Residency starts in early June and ends mid‑to‑late August.
