Threefold Educational Foundation & School is seeking a Director of Finance to join our dynamic team. The Director of Finance (DoF) will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the Foundation, ensuring that financial records are accurate, reports are timely, and that the organization adheres to all applicable financial and regulatory requirements. The role provides leadership in financial planning, reporting, budgeting, and compliance, with a strong focus on supporting the Foundation’s mission and vision.
Reporting to the Executive Director; and accountable to the finance committee, the DoF will:
- Consult and advise on financial position, performance, and business administration to support decision- making and strategic planning objectives.
- Develop budgets and proformas for general operating, departmental and capital purposes.
- Provide comprehensive internal financial reporting and modeling including forecasting, variance analysis, and KPI measurement and benchmarking.
- Manage external audits of financial statements and employee retirement plan, and coordinate associated filings.
Managing entity-wide business operations, the DoF will:
- Oversee shared finance and business service offce.
- Design and implement effective internal controls over financial reporting and accounting procedures.
- Establish and revise administrative policies and procedures as necessary.
This position is ideal for an experienced non-profit finance professional who is passionate about education, seeks to further the mission of the Threefold Educational Foundation, and has the ability to work collaboratively across various organizations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Monitor and manage the Foundation’s cash flow, ensuring there are sufficient funds to meet operational needs.
- Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with senior leadership, and monitor performance against budget.
- Prepare and present financial reports, including variance analysis and key financial metrics.
- Accounting & Recordkeeping:
- Supervise all accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and general ledger ensuring financial records and reports adhere to Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
- Implement and maintain accounting systems and processes that support accurate and timely financial data.
- Manage annual audit processes with external auditors to ensure the organization’s financial statements are in compliance with regulations.
- Internal Controls & Compliance:
- Maintain and enforce internal control policies and procedures to safeguard the organization’s assets and prevent financial mismanagement.
- Ensure compliance with all local, state, and federal financial regulations and reporting requirements.
- Manage the preparation and filing of tax returns, including non-profit filings and other tax-related documents.
- Strategic Collaboration & Leadership:
- Partner with senior leadership of the Foundation and its organizations to provide strategic financial guidance and support decision-making.
- Work collaboratively with other departments to ensure proper financial planning, resource allocation, and organizational alignment with mission-driven goals.
- Supervise and mentor a team of four accounting professionals, providing professional development and training as needed.
The ideal candidate will have the following qualifications:
- Education & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, CPA or CMA certification preferred.
- At least 5 years of experience in accounting/finance, with a strong background in nonprofit financial management.
- At least 5 years of supervisory experience.
- Proven experience managing budgets, financial statements, and audits in a non-profit environment.
- Familiarity with nonprofit accounting standards, and IRS regulations for 501(c)(3) organizations.
- Cultivates meaningful and trust-based relationships with organizational leaders and colleagues
- Strong knowledge of accounting software (Financial Edge NXT preferred).
